As an aspiring flight nurse I find it so hard to stay objective in health care and not want to wish the worst on the drive..it saddens me to read of this as I can only pray for the family. I pray for the responders that they treat all with the same level of care and leave the deciding up to the good lord.

Well the drunk driver was killed .. and aside from heartbroken for the family, the troopers and emts and all rescue personnel have to be so affected by this.

Side note: our parish lost by all accounts a FANTASTIC teacher a week ago. She graduated from grad school and was celebrating with friends. Her friend was driving the vehicle and wrecked .. teacher that just earned her MS was killed .. in restrained and her friend was legally impaired.

WHY does this continue to happen????? No reason for any of it.

Same thing happened in Lexington a few years ago.

Mom, Dad, and 2 kids killed by drunk driver going the wrong way on the interstate.

An entire family gone in an instant.

Please don't drink and drive.

Absolutely.

In LA, in 90% of situations, one can get suspended sentence and license restored through the 3rd DUI. It's a problem.

That women went to ULM where I go now and such a sad loss. Beyond stupid for someone to take the risk of drunk driving I will never understand

Drunk drivers should have stiffer penalties imposed on them.

Agreed. The current punishment/deterrent is not working. Innocent lives are being lost. Our legislators are letting us down. The only way they will do anything is if one of their own dies at the hands of a drunk driver.

Right??

Idk how old the daughter is but she did say she’s the second of 9 kids. Identifying one of my younger siblings would be beyond traumatic and she had to id two of hers.

These poor people is all I can think.

I just hope cars are fully automated before my kids start driving. Nothing is more likely to take everything from me than a car crash. This case is about a drunk but I do hope people who read this take a moment and to think about how they drive and why. Nothing is gained from reckless, distracted or aggressive driving.

There are no words for this.

The GoFundMe is so heartbreaking. I'm so happy to see so many hearts pouring into this family.

OP, you many want to consider adding the link to the original post?

Well I thought about it but with recent gofund me links that didn’t go so well I opted not to.

I actually wanted to copy and paste the story behind the fund ..

Best not to. They aren't allowed here. Easiest to leave them in the middle of a thread and people will click as they read and hopefully donate to this poor family. My heart is breaking for them.

Update per family fb post:

The mom is having surgery this am .. excruciating pain. She still hasn’t been told about the deaths of the children. Being in icu family can only be in there 2 hours at a time and they don’t want to have to leave once she hasn’t been told.

Please continue to pray for them. If you have fb and are to read the post, search Katie Joy DeRouen.

I’ve seen firsthand the effects of drunk driving, namely watching a girl two weeks away from starting her senior year of high school die trapped in her car after a 70 year old drunk t-boned her car at an intersection.

Seeing that gave me a visceral hatred of the subhuman scum willing to endanger the lives of everyone around them. I’d like to see truly draconian punishment for drunk drivers. I’d start with minimum six months jail and one year suspended license when they get out. Second offense goes to five years and loss of license for life. And if they do it again, lock their arse up for 10 years.

Is that harsh? damn right it is. But there is zero excuse for drunk driving. Anyone with so little regard for others lives they’re willing to drive drunk should be removed from society. frick ‘em.
