I don't consider it dangerous, but I don't live near there anymore. I was just asking a question.
I've lived in a couple of places around Napoleon and St Charles. Had my truck window broken once parked on St Charles Ave. But it was relatively safe back then. And it seemed like it got safer as you went further up St Charles. I was surprised to read that some posters considered it to be a dangerous area.

There was definitely a difference in the JP and Orleans parish schools because of Latoya’s phase 2.2.
ACHS was the first to have a fully functioning back to normal open house (all the other major girls private schools are in Nola) and they let the girls know they were back to normal. ACHS seems to be doing really good things at the moment with a really leadership group AND they don’t have the NOLA problems.
DHS needs JP girls period the end and right now they are not getting as many as they used to get. MCA already has a ton girls in their own backyard to pull from in Lakeview but DHS does NOT.

Dominican ain’t cheap so I don’t know what you’re getting at

My three daughters went to Dominican about 15 years ago. I can tell you the main reason for low enrollment is that the administration has sucked all of the fun out of it. They will be out of business if they can’t make themselves more appealing to students.

Plus some Catholic middle schools ended at 7th grade (looking at you Christian Brothers), at least it was set up that way in the late 90s.
In ‘89, I left St. Pius after 4th grade for the old McFadden mansion. Hit the academic/disciplinary lotto with Br. Ambrose (RIP) for 5th. (I watched that old man pick Hudson Higgins’ desk up with him in it, kick the French doors open with his hands full, and lob him a couple of steps down onto the mosaic tile. He made him sit outside in his desk for the rest of the day.)**
As a kid, 5th-7th made no sense. Looking back, all the 10,11, & 12 year old boys I went to school with had no business in a co-ed Catholic elementary/jr high classroom (lol). Nothing to do with being around the opposite sex, really. We were well behaved in that regard. The all female faculty just isn’t appropriate for boys that age. The handful of men on that campus were Father Screen, the P.E. teacher, and two janitors. Conversely, Christian Brothers’ faculty had one lady who taught Spanish or French.
After 4th grade at Pius, each successive year had fewer boys until 8th grade, at which point the only students enrolled were girls.

Are 8th grades a big thing in NOLA? Most BR high schools don’t have them or at least don’t have large ones.
The fact that 30 people couldn’t figure out that you were referring to 8th grades attached to high schools and not 8th grades in general is stunning.

I lived in that exact area up until a little over a year ago. Multiple break ins and armed carjackings multiple times a year. A block from me a woman got carjacked with her small kids in the backseat while getting home from vacation.
It might be safer than other New Orleans neighborhoods but anywhere where this happens multiple times a year within blocks of your house is not a “safe” area. Moms getting carjacked in Audubon park and deep uptown were happening a few times a year. The crime in New Orleans is only a few blocks away even from the best areas. Holly grove, central city, and Claiborne are still basically walking distance away.
Hell some kid held a house hostage near Tulane on Broadway after committing armed robbery on like 6 people. In like 2021. This was regular and systemic violent crime that really could have gotten anyone in neighborhoods with 800k-1M+ homes.

Damn bro. You wandered into a totally different topic that is causing problems in schools. Expecting young boys to be as docile as young girls while in school.

I choose not to live in New Orleans. If I did, I wouldn’t be concerned with sending my daughter to Dominican outside of neighborhood safety.

This thread is a prime example of why you don’t listen to the OT for anything related to New Orleans.
OP thought Dominican was in mid city
MrLSU just blatantly making shite up and claims Dominican won’t exist by 2030 which is utterly laughable.
A 3rd poster who stated his only experience with the school is when he had to go to NOLA east for work.

I’ve never heard of 8th graders going to HS that seems like a terrible idea to me.
Everywhere does things diff.
When I was younger they had jr high, then that was scrapped for middle school.
So the whole 6-8 middle school isn’t something that’s always been around.

I mean it’s basically in between mid city and uptown Carrollton.
It’s not far from that costco or Xavier, or mid city lanes.

Most kids just go from 7th to 9th. Sort of like how tall buildings don’t have a 13th floor.

It’s effectively mid city. This is like someone arguing that the Milan or Carrollton neighborhood is different than uptown. Technically yes. But effectively the same thing.
Fountianbleu is literally adjacent to mid city. You could walk there in a few minutes.

And nobody from New Orleans would call it mid city.
Rock n bowl used to be in a different location which is why it was called mid city lanes. When they moved they kept the original name.

In the same token Jesuits numbers are down but not as severe as Dominican due to crime fears and families moving out of Orleans.
Oh looks it’s MrLSU espousing BS about families “fleeing” New Orleans with 0 factual information to back it up. Besides, you know how many JP families send their children into Orleans parish for Catholic school? It’s a lot.

Wait....are you saying that sentiment is not true?

It may be the case for some, but it’s not the reality. I called him out on it in another thread last week, he responded with articles that talked about population decline in the metro area. Nothing about Orleans Parish specifically and nothing stating crime as the determining factor. More people move because the infrastructure is awful, leadership is incompetent, and insurance is stupid high. The crime is bad, mostly in localized areas, but crime alone isn’t driving people out or the cause for low enrollment in Catholic schools.
Other people who live here or have grown up here have chimed in already, but this thread is another glowing example of the OT not knowing shite about New Orleans. The idea of a woke Catholic school in New Orleans is hilarious.

Yeah where I lived in mid city is further from the rock n bowl and other things on that part of Carrollton than Dominican is.
Just splitting hairs.

Very good schools but graduate very weird kids.
I think once you pay more for private when there is a cheaper or free option that is perfectly acceptable to get you to any level you need, you get a lot of strange kids. Just too many very wealthy kids who are out of touch. Same thing happens here where I live. Public schools are great and most, even the wealthy, just send to public. But some still do private and they are all 20k+ and there is the same stigma of weird kid.
As far as Dominican, wife went there, but who gives a shite. Any discussion about any of the girls catholic schools is just middle/high school girl drama. Just stupid gossip drama. And this board, as expected, quickly devolves into the same drama, haha.
