While I feel no sympathy for the Dr. Feelgoods, it does make normal docs skittish to the point of not proscribing enough pain meds to some people with chronic ailments.

What’s scary is that someone like that is actually functioning as a doctor. It looks like he is a nurse practitioner. This is why giving lower level providers autonomy is fricking scary. Sure you get some decent ones, but you also get the bottom of the barrel nut jobs like this guy

They are doing this because they can rush 150 patients through their clinic in 1 day and get paid by Medicaid/Medicare/insurance for those visits. A patient looking for a script doesn’t care if the doctor is in the room for 30 seconds. Someone with a real problem does.
The money is in the high volume clinics, not some imaginary “kickbacks”

Most bad MDs won't even bill Medicaid/Medicare to avoid the red flag of high volume of office visits and they make more by charging patients cash up front for the visit. Usually $100 and higher per visit. Extra $100 gets you to the front of the line

I have a movement condition that required 2 oxycodone per day. I took the same amount for 10 years. The doctor got scared and said I had to stop taking them. So I did. Now I take 14 other pills per day to get the same impact as the 2 oxycodone. And she prescribed me Narcan (just in case). I needed fricking Narcan for 2 oxycodone per day? I'm one of the ones who never failed a drug test, took my meds as prescribed, went to the best neuromedical doctors in Baton Rouge and I suffer now because of these idiots and addicts. I'm the other side of the war on opiates.

A guy that I sort of knew when I was a kid (Lafayette area) is a Doctor that got busted in Virginia a year or two ago. He was prescribing a bunch of painkillers to patients that didn't need them, apparently so many that the Feds got involved.

About 8 of the doctors come from my hometown in Jackson, TN. My mom actually let the SWAT team into the front gate of the neighborhood - they arrested one of their neighbors. Pretty shocking he is tied up in this.
Not defending his actions, but why the hell does a police dept need to use a SWAT team and a helicopter? He is a physician with small children at home - he isn't going out in a gun fight.

They’re making a big deal about this bust but haven’t touched Texas or Florida! Those are and have been the hotbeds for prescription meds.
