If you train your dog right, it's not going to tear up your stuff. I have a mostly outside dog but I do let him in a lot, especially when the weather is bad. Just stay consistent with the dog and use the reward with a treat method to train him.

It just depends what type of dog you get. Most dogs throughout history were outside dogs, however in recent years many breeds have been created that do best indoors.

My lab sleeps in our laundry room and roams the house with use when we're home after work, but we keep him in our backyard during the day while no one is home.
He just sheds too much for us to give him free range of the house, but when we're home we can keep an eye on him around furniture, certain rugs, etc...
He seems to enjoy our big backyard and going after squirrels so I dont feel guilty. Not to mention my kids chase him around constantly and vice versa. They're buddies

I think you’re neglecting the animal if it spends its whole life inside. Dogs literally want nothing more than to dig holes and chase critters

I have a dog and my house doesn’t smell at all. If you clean, vacuum and bathe your dog often, you won’t have problems.
Don’t let it go roll around outside for days at a time and then expect a perfect smelling dog.

Dogs who don’t have a healthy dose of outside life will not be well rounded and have issues.
You're arguing against a strawman here. No one said to never let your dog go outside. Buying a dog and leaving it outside 24/7 or buying a dog for a high rise with pee pads are both shitty dog owners. There is a middle ground where you let your dog get the outside time and exercise it needs while also letting it properly socialize with your family and any other people who come over.

Once my dogs learned that outside is a funzone without me telling them “no” constantly... they beg to go out
He stays inside roaming around the house while I'm at work. He hasn't had an inside accident since he was a puppy, and he doesn't chew or scratch anything.
