Now that you mention it, those Alaskan boys feed their dogs fish.

I get that.
One time my grandpa's farm dog caught and ate a rabbit.

Later that day he was lethargic and dropped dead.
Brought too the vet...a bone tore through the dogs small intestine.
Horrible way to go

A neighbor hunted in Wyoming and brought the major cuts of meat home.

I drove by one afternoon and his bird dog was chewing on a really large bone, like a thigh bone. I called and asked if the Postman tasted good. It was mule deer (IIRC). His kids trew great Halloween parties. Blindfolded you put your hand into a bowl of eyes. Most homes would have used brussel sprouts; he had brought eyes from the hunting trip.

Well pup ate 2 small pork rub bones and it cut his intestines. Didn't need surgery but he bled a few days and a 700.00 vet er visit. So I keep all bones away and he chews on my old deer antlers.

In my experience, any bird bones, cooked or raw, can sliver and embed in the intestine. Over ten years, only one of mine had this happen, but it was enough to convince me never again. I occasionally give the boys cooked/smoked rib, ham or T-bones.

Only prob is they swallow large jagged hunks and have a miserable time passing them. Watching a dog howl while it shits may sound funny, but when he's yours, it really ain't.

Milkbones are all they get for the most part.

Not even that, but there are videos of dogs/cats catching a fish and then eating it, with no human involvement what so ever.

Go to the pet store and buy the hooves. A package of 4 is less the $5.00. they last much longer than the bull sticks.

We do deer antlers.

They are expensive but they last a long time and don't splinter.

Beef Knuckle bones from the meat counter - very cheap - just boil them. I don't let them have these indoors bc of the mess. You can buy these smoked at pet stores, but that smoked stuff stinks soooo bad and makes a couple of my dogs sick -- and they are $$.

Chirpee Chews - tough chews made from the milk of Himalayan yaks - my dogs LOVE these, it's weird how nuts they get over these bones

I give my dogs cow hoofs. You can buy them by the bag on Amazon. They love to chew on them and they are safe to consume. Only down side is that they stink. I also give them antlers but I find them expensive.

Elk Antlers. Petco has the KONG brand XLarge online for 15.99 and they will price match in store.

Antler splits - soak in beef or chicken broth overnight to add flavor when it’s getting worn out

Antlers. Expensive but they last forever! I’ve seen a pound for $40 on Amazon. That lasted my two dogs 6 months

Raw chicken/Turkey is good to eat. Frozen chicken raw chicken quarters are good for a teeth clean as well. Raw bird bones are malleable and will not splinter, cooked bones will. Although do not feed any weight bearing bones of pork or hooves animals (cooked or raw), they will splinter.

Antlers are ok for puppies but will wear down an adult dogs teeth since they’re so hard. Raw beef marrow bones are the best bones to give.
