Wear a jacket you can take off or you’ll smell like grease the rest of the day. That being said, this is the perfect stereotype for the OP’s question.

Yes....at the local Fuel Oil / Gas Station depot. Across from the Airport. The Airport with no passenger flights.

Yeah, we call it Hardee’s.
My best friend always said he hopes we grow old enough to reminisce at Hardee’s over coffee at 6 a.m.

Here in LC there is a group that goes to the hipster coffee house in downtown every Friday. I usually stop and shoot the shite with them for a few min. All great guys and all old enough to be my dad, some old enough to be my grandpa. Great guys and all were really really successful.

I'm sure there are some around Birmingham. Probably at a Jack's.
Jack's #1 in Homewood. The fun starts at 5:00am. Deluxe breakfast for me, thank you very much.

The local gas station / barber shop has it’s regular morning visitors.
Love going to the barber shop early and listening to these older fellows.
They solve all the world’s problems.

How exactly do you join one of these groups? Just hang around and make conversation? Seems like something I’ll be interested in about 30 years.

Every town does doesn’t it?

Yes, they come to gym every morning and drink coffee for 30 minutes, go to sauna, go shower and then hangout some more

The one in my town used to be called the dead pecker’s club. Sadly, most have actually died.

In the 60's and 70's, locally owned drug stores had coffee counters. We had two drug stores in Farmerville. One group went to City Drug and the other was at Farmerville Drug. My family were City Drug folks. As a kid we would go by there on Saturdays when the football coaches would be there for a morning after community talk. Think a mix of the Hoosier's movie fans and the Friday Night Lights fans.
My dad used to drink coffee with a bunch of fellows in Dubach that met at a convenience store to drink coffee. That ended when "some foreigner" bought the store and quit giving them refills. Some of them meet at McDonald's now. I've got an uncle that drinks coffee at a McDonald's in Vidalia. I think it's that way in most little towns now.
I don't go out for it because I like my own coffee better than just about anywhere else, and both my mom and dad are around to BS with. We make one pot first thing every morning, and another between 9:30 and 10:00 am. On weekends we also make an afternoon pot.
We are at our best during those parts of the day.

In Westwego, La, at We Geaux Cafe.
There's a morning group of around 15-to-20 boisterous older regulars always there with multiple sets of adjoined tables, fixing the world and discussing fishing spots.
My sister and I will occasionally go there for breakfast. We both are just entering our 50's and we always feel like kids. It's a fascinating fly-on-the-wall experience.

PAC in Mandeville has a group, they get in gym clothes and everything just to hang out for 4 hours in the cafe.
But they’re happy so frick it. Maybe that’s what should decide when you retire instead of money.
“Well Mr. Jones, you have $8MM in your 401k and a full pension, but you don’t have a group of friends willing to talk about nothing with for the next 25 years, so, I’m afraid you’ll have to keep working. Mr. Johnson on the other hand, has $43 stuffed in his mattress but boasts no less than SIX people willing to meet him at Bill’s Bakery every day, he is well established and ready to retire.”
