Bunch of rich old farmers that alternately bitch about the weather and their mutual funds

Pre-pandemic, there was a group that would hangout at Sams on Airline in their cafe. Sams used to serve free coffee for the premium members from 7-9 until Sams opened for the rest of the world.
Funny thing is they really don’t talk much. Just sit there and watch the people come and go. King of the Hill nailed that dynamic.

Local gas station here. They just sit and drink coffee. Every day.
This but then they switch to beer around 9 and then make their rounds to the restaurants and bars around the area lol. My dad is a member of this group and it pretty much goes on everyday.

No, but in the town where I was raised, and my dad still lives, old men sit every morning at the local NAPA store around the coffee pot and swap stories.
Years ago, the NAPA in New Roads was the same way. May still be.

In Ville Platte, it’s the Rice Dryer or the McDonalds. All morning there’s a group that talks in Cajun French and cut up. Love it.

Of course. Probably old white men, you've been indoctrinated to hate them.

When you retire, a friend will invite you to come meet their group. After a morning or two, you will know if that group is for you. I was invited to a couple of different groups. I like the guys in one. Nothing in common with the other.

<——Is in a Fridays only version
About 12 folks are on the roster, any given Friday there’s generally 6-7.
Most are close to retirement or are semi-retired.
A couple of Attorneys, a couple of Architects, a Realtor, a Dentist, a Surgeon, a retired Fortune 500 exec, an IT entrepreneur, an executive-level State level bureaucrat, and me.
We don’t talk politics or religion. Business (ours and local, state & regional) and personal stuff.
Male sons of the members are welcomed to attend, unfortunately not many of them are local.

How exactly do you join one of these groups? Just hang around and make conversation? Seems like something I’ll be interested in about 30 years.
The ones that go to stellar beans in lc, just would talk to me when I went in, invited me to sit down and talk.
