Does whiskey, honey, and lemon work for a cough and cold?

Do you have a better home remedy?

With some Tabasco, Worcester sauce added in. My dad made them for me when I was a kid. Had to hold my nose to get it down, woke up the next day feeling like a boss.

The supermoms I follow on facebook say to use honey, lemon, and cayenne pepper.

Doubt whiskey has any actual health benefit but I won't talk you out of it

It feels good. It’s not a cure. I melt a bag of honey lemon cough drops, add lemon juice and honey. Soothing. Sometimes I add a shot to the cup at night.

Soothes the symptoms, sometimes you take what you can get.

Yes but do it with herbal tea.

Whiskey is a decongestant and also opens up the capillaries to better deliver the health benefits of the other ingredients

Basically treats the symptoms. Doesn't beat the virus faster.

You need to take zinc lozenges as soon as you feel the cold coming on or even better, when something is going around.

As my Dad says, "Drink up. You're going to feel like shite in the morning anyways. Might as well feel good tonight."

Used it just recently. After two straight days of no sleep at night, I downed 4 of 'em during Thursday night football. Bout half a glass of smoking hot water, tablespoon of honey, shot of whiskey, a few splashes of lemon juice. Slept like a baby and felt MUCH better the next day. Still had symptoms for a couple more days, but didn't feel like garbage.

Terrible idea. Especially the whiskey, alcohol weakens the immune system.

Straight honey usually does the trick for me. Take a full tablespoon and then add some to a cup of hot tea.
