Can't speak for LA but it is awesome in Alabama. I never "drive" anymore. Takes me from my house to my office and back without ever touching the steering or pedals. Stops, turns, merges, passes, it's pretty damn cool.

Most of my FSD has been in Huntsville but I have also used it for road trips to Tuscaloosa (150 miles, all interstate) and Andalusia (280 miles, 80% interstate).

Then what's the point? If I have to stare at the road, I just assume drive.

There are thousands of crashes caused by Tesla autopilot and millions of pieces or two spaceships are scattered in low earth orbit. I'm not sure his safety record is as impeccable as he pays for you to believe.

The point is we don’t have unassisted full self driving, yet. Need to have FSD first.

It’s coming soon. Then you can stare at your phone all you want.

If it’s so great, why is it geofenced to only certain parts of three cities while Teslas are driving themselves all over the country?

What’s the point of cruise control? Or automatic transmissions?

FSD automates tasks just like those two things do, and in its current state, it reduces almost all of the physical and mental load of driving. The only thing you have to do is be prepared to take over in situations where it does something you’re uncomfortable with.

Because it’s actually autonomous driving focused on safety. Have you tried it yet? It’s mind blowing technology

I’ll have to wait until it’s available in places where the other 95% of the population lives.

Because while its amazing, its still not 100% and I've had it relinquish control back to me once or twice. I also think it has more to do with the law than with Tesla.

It pisses me of that the wife’s new whip hits the brakes on its own

Mine does this and it has come in handy in the couple of occasions where I looked away and someone pulled out in front of me.
I do hate it when I’m backing into a parking spot and it detects the curb and slams the brakes.
Do have to turn it off to back up to a trailer, otherwise I can only get a couple inches from the hitch

Have you actually seen a waymo? They have spinning radars on roof and are ugliest vehicles on the road. Theey are all over phoenix, but have never seen one on the interstate.

Auto pilot and FSD are two different things. Auto pilot is free and it is really for highways. It will drive the car for you. It will, depending on the settings, pass other cars and you can set it to keep with the flow of traffic.

FSD is much more advanced but is an added cost. Quite expensive if you ask me. It does not transfer to other tesla vehicles so if you purchase it and wreck your tesla you are out of luck. Now that I think about it I’m not sure if insurance would pay. If it followed the driver and not the car I would seriously consider it.

With FSD you can put an address in the navigation and it will drive there and park and everything. FSD also has the summons feature so you can summon the car from a parking space and it will come to you.

FSD requires you to keep your hands on the wheel and pay attention. If you don't, it gives you a strike. I got a few strikes for wearing sun glasses. I guess the computer couldn’t determine if I was eyes on the road.

If you buy either new or used from Tesla website you automatically get free 30 day trial of FSD. Buying used from Tesla also gets you an extended warranty. The used vehicle part is kind of gamified and it took me a few weeks to figure it out and get the car I wanted with the EV credit and everything. Let me know if youre interested and I’ll share my notes.

They are using the drivers to train it. It's not at the point where it's ready for a driver to fully not pay attention.

Thats next.
