I put one through a Z but only because my handwriting is atrocious.

I'll occasionally do that on a 7, not a Z.

I understand the origin and usage of the one through 7, but without looking up is there any reason for the one through a Z?

Ah, that makes sense, considering the equal to the line through a 7 for 2, looks like a Z

Why waste the time or the ink?

Make a loop on the bottom left corner of the 2 to distinguish it from a Z.

In Australia, Z is Zed. I learned that from watching The Wiggles.

I put them through my Z because my 2 and Z are pretty identical. I write like a 5th grader.

I do horizontal lines through both. Am I a jerk?

This isn't the 80's. We aren't writing OZZY on our notebooks.
