Does the Elf on the shelf contribute to the surveillance state?

People are just digging way to deep into something that is just to entertain kids.

nah bro, they got the cameras on your phone and laptop for that.

We didn't have an Elf on the shelf to keep us from misbehaving.

We had a Belt on the shelf.

So my little girl looses her first tooth. She's pretty pumped about the tooth fairy coming like he's done for her brother several times. She and her brother go to talking about it and we over hear them talking about what if the tooth fairy and Blue (thier name for their Elf) run into each other. A pretty funny conversation ensues between them. That night my wife came up with this:







Next morning was awesome

Elf on the Shelf represents the patriarchy and indoctrinates young girls to believe it's acceptable to have a man watching your every move.

I will never have that creepy thing in my house. Instead, I have this watching my daughter as she sleeps:

Yeah why would any parent spend any time thinking about the stuff they fill their kids heads with?

This is coming from a society that sees nothing wrong with sticking 6 year old boys in a desk for 8 hours a day, though, so it's not surprising that critical thought isn't going into the traditions we create out of thin air.
