This is insane.
What is it with people nowadays treating their wedding as if it's this all-encompassing, gaudily expensive free-for-all? I say this as someone who's 30 and has only been married for 5 years.

As the only single guy left in my group of friends, I've noticed this lately too. It's getting ridiculous. Add on to it the plethora of parties for each marriage (engagement, bachelor, shower, honey doo, other made up bullshite parties).
Atleast with this bachelor party, although a cruise is kind of gawdy, it's only 4 days and the sticker price before alcohol is $400.

Hell no I wouldn't pay for it. If he wants to go on a cruise he can pay for it himself.

1) A cruise seems like the absolute lamest bachelor party destination I can imagine. Maybe y'all can get someone's grandmother to flash you by the pool?
2) I've never heard of a group splitting the bachelor's whole trip. Maybe a part of it - hotel portion or big dinner - but not the whole fricking thing. That's crazy.
One of my favorite bachelor parties was going to Vegas when I was a broke student. The groom won so much money playing poker that he paid for all our hotel rooms.

Agreed. $400/person plus alcohol (which will be crazy expensive) is still pretty ridiculous given that the groom asked for this type of trip, not to mention the fact that it's a 4 day cruise and is thus a pretty big time commitment for people with jobs.

I love how people think they're something special and immodestly need to be lavished with gifts and attention because they do what others do every year, like get married, have a baby, move to a new home, etc.

For mine, the best man planned it and everyone split cost

I think it really depends on everyone's situation. My brother-in-law wanted to go to Vegas for his bachelor party, I was his best man. He had a job, I was still in college. He paid for me to go to Vegas for his bachelor party.

Split it between all the groomsmen.

Yeah I'm assuming everyone is graduated and working.

Eh, I look at the showers and parties that way.. but I think a friends trip sounds like a blast for all involved, and a "bachelor/bachelorette" seems like the best excuse for it.
I can't imagine I'd ever expect someone else to cover the cost, but I'd love it if I could get my friends together and spend a few days on the beach. Laying out by the pool/beach all day, dinner in the evenings, party at night. To me, that way outshines the whole "lets go out with plastic dicks taped all over us" crap.

If it's a cruise, that complicates things. If nobody wants to go, then tell the groom that people can't make the trip and he should probably think of another option. If it were going to vegas, I'd expect the bachelor party to at a minimum cover his food, booze, and maybe some entertainment. I wouldn't expect to pay for his flight and gambling $. A cruise is a little more complicated because it's all rolled into one price. $400 isn't too bad though, if split between at least 5 people, that's less than $100 per person, which IMO is reasonable for someone to spend on a groom at a bachelor party.

Yeah to me it just seems incredibly tacky to demand your friends take a special trip for your bachelor/bachelorette and then you expect them to pay for your share of it. I could see them paying for drinks and a nice dinner, but your entire trip? Seems a bit much.
Guess it really depends on income levels of your friends and if they already are married with kids (and thus have other financial obligations to worry about than your trip).

Agree with others, this is pretty stupid IMO, a cruise for a bachelor party?
When I got married 16 years ago, the only thing that my guys worried about was how good of a show will the lesbian strippers put on for us all.

We got our room comped at the Ritz in NOLA. Didn't pay for anything but my dinner until everyone's CC's got maxed. I threw down mine to make sure the party kept going...
