Best man does the planning, but everyone in the party puts up for the groom IMO.

One of my wife's best friends did the cruise thing at her request. Wife got mad at me for being pissy about it. Wasnt really all that expensive, but the audacity for a person to request a cruise or something like that when its supposed to be a party people are putting together for you. Its not a party so that you can get your friends to pay for your vacation. If everyone brings it up and decides its a good idea for everyone, then fine.

This. The act is legitimately asking your friends to pay for your own vacation (and theirs as well) is a pretty fricking selfish move. Maybe it's just me, but it's sort of girly/beta for a guy to request this type of trip. Real men don't do that type of thing.
