The basin bridge should just be extended as an elevated bypass 500 feet over the city of baton rouge. I'd be willing to pay 20 bucks each way.

And for the last 9 years, we seem to have this certain political party that is hell bent on making sure the government has no money.

I mean, you wouldn't want any socialist bs like raising taxes for infrastructure would you!? God, sounds terrible.

Louisiana is one of the most heavily taxed states in the country right now.

And we have zero shite to show for it.

You goddamn idiot.

And that cluster fck known as I-10 in BR is all on the Feds
agreed, however, the merchants along what is Florida Blvd fought tooth and nail back in the early 60's to make sure I-10 was routed to it's current position - now all one has to do is get their weapons loaded and drive down Fla. Blvd - not even 3rd world - talking about Iraq kinda torn up shite.

I agree it's been probably 8 years of so since I cruiser Fla BLVD, but has it really gotten THAT bad? I think you're using a bit of hyperbole.

Also the imminant domain laws in LA must suck arse... fricking Texas says 'yep we building right here, and this is the plans. You need to gtfo like yesterday, soooo '

Bull shite.... They will pay the ever loving frick out of outside independent studies to contractors. Usually a buddy in law. But I mean at least the shite gets studied from all angles, even if though studies aren't put to any pracfice

: cheers:

We should propose a study of all the DoT studies

Goddamn it.

People want to pay for it but they don't trust the government to spend the money for the infrastructure, roads, bridges and loops.

Besides, like I've already said, Louisiana has some of the highest tax rates in the country with the highest sales tax and we have absolutely nothing to show for it as the state has only spent it on bullshite that goes nowhere.

Pardon us if we're not ready to fork over over more money to dipshits and grifters in Baton Rouge.

Why can't you carpool? Or take CATS? Or any other means of alleviating your problem?

Or...pay more taxes.

Or....quit fricking bitching and accept it.

traffic engineers

Are they involved in timing the stop lights around town for traffic flow purposes?

When I needed a job after being laid off right after Katrina I worked for the DOTD in road design (not as an engineer). My opinions of the engineers there is that they aren't necessarily dumb, but they lack the motivation or desire to want to work in the private sector even though they know they would make a shite load more money (in most instances). Some people just want to be lazy and when so much of their leadership basically is nothing more than the DOTD Engineers who have the most tenure, the attitude just keeps flowing.

Do the designers of these clusterfricks get any blame in your mind? Seems like you're trying to stick the design faults on politicians. Do politicians set traffic lights and design intersections?

They certainly get a small amount of blame, but they can only design with what they are given. Politicians set the parameters. The engineers wanted the I-10 bridge farther south, near Brightside. This would have meant no massive turn and far fewer accidents. Politics put it downtown.

Engineers sometimes make the choice, but politicians decide what choices they can choose from. Engineers can only make a design within the constraints they are allowed.

You're probably right about the bridge. Such a massive project takes competent political leadership.

The engineers probably deserve blame for the traffic lights though. There's no logic to them.

No, lights are about 90% politics. When developers want to develop a shopping center or parge subdivision, part of the deal they strike with the metrocouncil is generally ensuring that there will be a traffic light at the entrance. Most lights that are not at major intersections exist not due to need, but due to politics. The intersections are generally designed not based off of what will move the most cars the most easily, but what they can get away with for the least amount of money during an election year to look like they're doing something.

Traffic lights are highly political as well. Traffic engineers are to road grids as Hollywood writers are to movies. They supposedly have a say in how it goes, but in reality have almost no power and are constantly ignored by decision makers.

So the politicians want stoplights backing up traffic? Some of this stuff is just common sense, yet tens of thousands of dollars are spent at each intersection getting timing wrong. What is the point of having two lights 1/4 mile apart set completely opposite each other? You don't need a study to see that's fricked up.

The interstate problems are a safety issue as well

Politicians are tied inexorably to real estate developers. Developers want traffic lights at the entrance of their developments so cars can more easily enter and exit. Politicians are suceptible to bribes or desires to gain canpaign contributions from developers who often are the biggest players in local elections. Thus, unnecessary traffic lights get improved.

It's been my experience that most LADOTD Engineers are primarily counting down days to retirement.

And traffic, traffic exists everywhere.

You seem pretty clueless on how the real world works. Still in school right? And not even as a civil? So what exactly do you know that you're acting like such a petulant child in here?
