I've lived in Lafayette, Harahan, Slidell, Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, BR, and Metairie. Traffic is bad in every one of those places

Have you ever driven around in a city?
Posted on 7/1/16 at 8:47 pm to Hammertime
Biggest problem in most of the state is they build and build and build and then 20 years later start thinking about having some roads to support the growth.
And that cluster fck known as I-10 in BR is all on the Feds

Drive around BR all the time.
I just don't use main streets or the interstate because there's no need.

Georgia´s got a solid crop of them.

Sheltered bubble?
For arguments sake about that comment I'll simply say, yes, of course I get out, often. I do encounter traffic but it's not a big deal. It can be frustrating, sure. My point was, live where you don't have to deal with it as much, don't let it stress you out to the point of having to reach out to a message board. To further my point, there's a reason traffic is so bad. The population flourishes because the economy here is relatively good for lots & lots of people. That will never change regardless of the bad infrastructure, money is money and living comfortably isn't a bad trade off for most. Houston is just as bad or worse, and I say that because the petrochemical industry there almost mirrors the one in BR.

I am just wondering specifically which projects took 10 years?

Causeway Blvd interchange might've taken 15

My customer base is the Petrochemical industry, I make $175k+ per year, I live in close proximity to my work territory, traffic is a non issue for me. All of this right in the BR area. Move and/or change your profession if you don't like it. Life is what you make it & I'm happier than a pig in shite
1. Nice brag. No one cares.
2. The BR traffic, esp east bound, is an embarrassment. Just Bc you aren't affected by it doesn't mean it's not a problem. My friend said it took her two hours today to go 25 miles. That's disgusting. And no effort whatsoever is being made to alleviate the problem.

No, our traffic woes are not due to shitty engineers nearly as much as they are due to:
"Cheap" government trying to cut corners
"Corrupt" government trying to cut corners to avoid destroying the property of connected benefactors and so they can pocket the savings via graft.
"Incompetent" government that refuses to plan for growth.
Really really unstable soil which causes construction to be more expensive and causes roads to break down more rapidly over time.

You act like bitching on a message board is an extreme act.

Houston is just as bad or worse,
Houston has ten times the population, and TRIES. Lanes are added, LOOPS--multiple loops!--are built, an HOV and toll lanes are there. Effort is made to alleviate the traffic.

That's fine, but interstate traffic is not just locals.

La gets the rejects of most people other than chefs and football players.

In the last 10 years, Georgia has finally started implementing innovations I saw in California 40 years ago. Do any state engineers ever drive thru other states to see how they handle traffic?
Posted on 7/1/16 at 10:11 pm to ATL-TIGER-732
It's moslty a funding issue from what I can tell.
I do remember many bitching about on ramp lights when we finally got some of them. Other states had them 10 years before

Like how stupid it is to live outside of the city you work in and bitch about sitting in traffic with all your peers who do the same.
What about those that live in town only minutes from their work, but would like to do something on the weekend and are forced to sit in traffic for over and hour just to get out of town. Most of the time I can cross Houston and be on my way to Austin in less time than it takes to get from Bluebonnet BLvd to the MSR bridge at 4PM in BR.

If everyone wasn't a passive pussy racist running off to flood zones and just stayed close to where they worked.....traffic and Baton Rouge wouldn't be a problem
Posted on 7/1/16 at 10:18 pm to EA6B
it literally takes 1 hour+ to get across the bridge from west BR to the other side in the afternoons in the midweek. we're talking about a 4 mile stretch.

Do the designers of these clusterfricks get any blame in your mind? Seems like you're trying to stick the design faults on politicians. Do politicians set traffic lights and design intersections?

It's NOT the engineers... The engineers routinely get fricked in the arse by the piece of crap politicians in this state and to a lesser extent land developers.
Most engineering fields, in most situations, the applicable building code is the law of the land. Not so in LA in regards to traffic.
