The world is market driven. Teachers are a dime a dozen and easily replaceable. Hyper elite athletes are a rare commodity and, individually, elicit extreme value. It' s not hard.

The market decides pay. It’s all about supply and demand. It really is that simple.

until you deal with 20 to 25 little assholes that drive u crazy all day, I can't judge a teacher and a their want to make more $$...the shite they deal with must be insane, kids who fail or are assholes and when the parent is contacted , most of them defend their kids with bs....I know a teacher, they work past 3pm mostly till 5 or 6 preparing to deal with those little assholes again the next day.

police officers who put their lives on the line everyday should make way more $$$

They both should make more money, but the standards to become one should be raised greatly.

This response always makes me lol. Lots of professions work year round and would feel lucky to leave work at 6. And lots of people deal with a ton of assholes. It's not about that. See my post from earlier in the thread.

I think that’s the problem with the quality of the teaching profession, police, civil services, etc. There are ways to measure how good a teacher is, and it’s not 100% determined by state testing.

Owners of sports franchises want to win. They will outbid each other for star players. They do what it takes to try to field successful teams.

You could have an amazing teacher want a raise, and the district can’t/won’t do that. Contract holdouts don’t happen for those jobs. I’m not saying they should, but once again...there needs to be some way to pay for someone’s value in those jobs.

The pro athlete only hets paid what he does because us the consumers pay into the business while your teachers are merrily government employees. Plus the pro athletes like an NFL player for example is in the top 1% of his profession. Even a guy that rides the bench is a very gifted athlete.

No, they have rarer skill sets that are valued by large amounts of people creating demand for their entertainment. Getting angry about that would be irrational.

While you are here...a while back I had done an (admittedly long) historical POV thread by request.

I put a lot of work and research into it. It wasn’t a horrible wall of text but broken up into chunks by maps, diagrams, links, pictures, etc.

I only did it because it had been requested after the one I did about the battle of Cannae.

Then it got deleted with no explanation. Do you happen to know why?

My wife is a teacher and while I know it is a very difficult job, it is a job she admittedly went in to knowing there is no money in it. While I think her job is more valuable to society, a pro athlete is in a profession with way more money involved and rightly makes more mullah. Now if you ask me if pro sports should be taxed at a high rate to pay for teachers, cops, fireman......I would be for that.

You’d be in favor of outrageous taxes against successful people?

Maybe the most no shite post this month. You’re a communist.
