if you are miserable in life you are probably miserable at work. If you see plotting against you every where you look, think you are the only person with an answer and no one will listen, and want more than anything in life to be a victim you will probably eventually become one of your own shortcomings if nothing else. If, on the other hand, you accept responsibility for your lot in life and understand you made choices to get in the position you are in no matter how good or bad that position is you will have the comfort of knowing you decided to be where you are.

There was a guy at work who was like this. He worked in IT for an engineering firm and it was as if he got off on having to go fix someone's computer problem, but more times than not, when you call he would give you a time. If you called him at 1:48PM he would say "Give me about an hour, I will be there at 3". So in the mean time you just figure it out and he would get pissed as if that person did his job. He would remind everyone that he started off in engineering at UL but because of the foreign professors/instructors he didn't do well.

Everything was always someone else's fault, he always had an excuse and he bitched about everything. Some people are just miserable and it translates to everything else in their life.

Some aspects I truly relish. Others I detest. Overall, I feel fortunate to still be in a position to pursue my original dreams after all these long years of toil, but it can be absolutely exhausting and frustrating and filled with anxiety. That's life, I suppose. No simple answers.

Hell no. I’ve always hated my job, people at work, all of it. It’s pretty depressing but I do what I have to do to support my family.

No. I’ve job hopped a lot last 8 years. Always upward hop though.
Just burnt out. I should have joined military or made something useful of my 20’s besides just getting a degree.

I love my job. Part time.
Suffered through a pinched nerve so far this year. Thought I was done.
Facing the fact I might've been done I realized how much I love my job. The industry, the duties, the dudes I work with, my boss.
Had an epidural and seem to be good again...at least for now.

FedEx delivery driver. I’m making more money now and my crew is pretty cool. The customers on my route are very nice people. Besides the fact I’ve been bitten by three dogs in two months, yes I do like it.

Get the minimally invasive spine surgery. Don’t let a herniated disc ruin your health longer than it has to. Sciatica is a bitch

I enjoy my job. It’s intellectually stimulating and the time flies because I’m so busy/engaged. There are days I hate it, but most days are relatively enjoyable.

I think most people dislike being obligated to a job and a perceived lack of freedom vs the actual job itself.

My theory is that you could pay someone $100k a year to answer one email a day and they'd find a way to complain about it, it's just human nature.

The job I have now is by far the best I've ever had by any metric, I just try to keep a grateful attitude on the days I'm not enjoying it and that definitely helps.

First, delineate "job" from corporate BS and the actual work you like to do. What do you like to do? Whatever that is, learn how to do it for yourself. What would it take if you were working for yourself doing what you love to do? Once you dial in on it, pursue it. That'll make it easier going to that job, enduring the toxic, corporate politics be cause you know you have a plan to get out. Use it to motivate you. There's the "technical doer", the project manager, business development or marketing aspect, and the billing & tracking your time aspect for cash flow. Having done consulting, I learned all of these, and it paid off in my later years. Always give VALUE, and associate your name or reputation with your work. You'll get repeat business.

I like nice things and traveling. I’m fortunate I have the job I have. Work with some really great people. Some close friends. Been here for 12 years and do well. But; so I like it? I tolerate it and would much rather not work, ever. Rather be offshore, traveling, really anything but working.

You do realize, you can have regret, and be miserable, and still own it, right? And not be a victim?

Just because one, when looking back, might have made different choices and has regret, doesn't mean one is being a victim. Or blaming anyone themselves. It means possibly they've learned from their mistakes.

I know that where I am today, is all because of choices that I've made. And I'm extremely thankful for the position I am in relative to many others in this world. But I also encourage my kids to chase after their dreams, don't settle, because I pretty much did. That's all on me. I'm no victim. And I can quit my job today. That's completely in my control.

But I harbor some regret. Doesn't make me any less than you.

It would be a rare individual, and probably some sort of psychotic one to boot, who lived long without some regret. I never said that I had no regrets, I said I was not full of regret...subtle difference. I regret not having joined the Coast Guard when I was 17 when I wanted to....that regret has never caused me a moment of anxiety or misery. It is probably not possible to go through life without any regret...letting regret rule over you is a decision.
