A sovereign citizen doesn't follow the laws of the United States right? And because of this, do they think that they will immediately be allowed to follow whatever laws or rules they believe in? As in, do they think that law enforcement should not enforce laws on them once they inform law enforcement that they are sovereign citizens?

Or are they all pretty much a bunch of idiots?

They're all fricks who decide to be sovereign citizens about the time they get a notice of intent to foreclose

Ohhh yeah.. I remember some of those videos. Isn't there one with a girl in the passenger seat of her boyfriend's car or something and the officer had to end up dragging her out the car?

Yeah, it's in that video too.

There's a reaction video on youtube where a black guy watches these. It's pretty funny.

The lingo has creeped in to databases of pro se court filings over the years. It'll show up and I bet half of the people filing these documents have no idea their doc is filled with sovereign citizen shite

I filed a straightforward lawsuit on behalf of a client against one of these kooks. PI case, clear liability. Sued/served him and his insurance company simultaneously. Before the insurance company could even respond, he fired back with literally page after page of the Sovereign Citizen bullshite. It was mostly indecipherable, but, generally, he alleged Louisiana Courts had no jurisdiction over him.

I copied that and faxed the entire diatribe (yeah, we were still using fax machines in the early 2000s) over to the insurance adjuster. He called me back to settle within the week. I was a little reluctant to settle--I wanted to get that fine individual sworn in to testify in a discovery deposition if nothing else.

FWIW, I googled various parts of his letter and quickly found a trove of form letters that their group can use in various legal proceedings.

Idk if sovereign citizen would even be the correct term for someone that lives so far removed from civilization they’re not even a part of our society (I’m thinking like the movie Nell- there must be some in the US, but there can’t be that many). It definitely wouldn’t be someone that just found the “You’ve committed a crime, here’s what to say to get out of it” websites.

I've seen it pop up in a few pro se cases. Some people who believe it are polite and well-meaning, but the majority seem to be fringe nutjobs. Either way, it never works. It's just a bunch of pointless legal fiction that never accomplishes anything.
