But I love my friends who live here and that makes up for a hell of a lot

I didn't grow up IN Baton Rouge, but in the Baton Rouge area. Have always gone to Baton Rouge for everything (to shop for everything other than groceries, movies, etc).

My dad worked in Baton Rouge, I have family in BR and have friends who live in or around the Baton Rouge area. This is how I feel. It's home. There are many cities that offer things that Baton Rouge doesn't. The traffic might suck, but I can go anywhere in the city and at any moment see people I know.

I have family members and friends who I can stop off at their house if I ever need anything. As often as I am there, I don't ever think to myself "damn this place really sucks. I wish I were somewhere else". And there are some really nice places to live in, in Baton Rouge.. So people who complain, would probably complain no matter where they live.

Lmao I’m not even from LA and I’ve been all over. Not even a big fan of the panhandle or bama coast. Congrats on being an arrogant idiot.

Funny how if you defend BR or any part of LA you don’t see as that bad, people on the OT will instantly think you’re some plantard with truck nuts who lives in a trailer. Hahaha the things people do to make themselves feel better.

I loved it when I left...haven't been back outside of home football games since then though, so I probably am not the best one to comment.

I know several plant baws. Some people make fun of them on the OT but many of them make decent money and will retire younger than I probably will from my white collar office job.

Oh I definitely understand. They work their asses off and there’s nothing wrong with that. OT likes to poke fun of anything and everything.

I worked for 13 years in white collar office jobs, and left 4 years ago to become a plant engineer (did 2 years as a contractor).

I have made as much in 2 years in my 401k and pension as I had in the previous 13 outside of plant work.

I've been here a little over 7 years and I love it.

I'm not saying it's the greatest city ever, nor that there aren't better places to live. However, Baton Rouge gets way more hate than it should, and I've never understood why.

I think I was blessed to grow up in the area. Lot of top level talent so was able to compete against the best in football which made me better.

Had multiple offers to private schools to play sports but were small 1A types where I wouldn’t play against any talent. Stayed on the tough streets of Baton Rouge and really strived, gained a greater work ethic, and still can ball because of it.

Injuries kept me from getting a shot but I pretty much dominate anything I do know because of growing up in the cities YMCA system and BREC leagues. Texas is better at a lot of things, but not breeding toughness like the Rouge.

Br has best library scene , better ethnic food then any other la city

I was born and grew up here so there will always be some sense home or connection. I think others can say the same . But I would like to leave and experience something else

I moved here to attend LSU and never left. But the older I get the less I want to raise a family here or anywhere else in this state. My kids deserve better.

Born and raised in BR; North Baton Rouge. For me Baton Rouge is where my family is including grandparents but I'm ready to move. When I really think about it, Baton Rouge isn't that good of a financial bargain regarding taxes, real estate if you want to live in a nice area, as well as socially and professionally for most of us. So, I love Baton Rouge because of sentimental reasons but that's it.

Please define ethnic food and explain how Baton Rouge surpasses New Orleans in that area.

I will give you that BR’s libraries surpass what I’ve seen elsewhere.

This place is miserable sometimes. I never knew how bad my life supposedly sucks here until I discovered the OT

Truer words have never been spoken.

I’ve lived in BR my whole life. All of our family is here. I found myself coming to hate this place a few years ago and I realized it was strictly because of the comments that people would make on this forum. I was started to get borderlined depressed and feeling like I was really missing out on a better life by living here.

This city has its issues, all cities do. While many point fingers at the locals who we believe cause the problems, there are many more people who live, work and raise their families here who are doing as much as they can to push the needle forward and make a small change for the better.

The city has drastically changed in the last 10-15 years. With all of the new developments and ideas on the table, I’m excited to see where it is going.

After living in rural Alabama, B Ara is like paradise. That said, once the kids finish high school, we are headed to Colorado or Wyoming. I’m going to miss the Culcha though.

BR is much nicer than the central LA rural area I live in.

Louisiana is weird. I keep wanting this state to improve and I keep advocating for it to eventually get it together but our non-working class just kills everything this state (and by correlation) BR COULD be. I wish if were one of these cities that people looking to escape the ridiculous prices of New England were flocking to like; Huntsville, Birmingham, Chattanooga, etc but we are being overlooked because Louisiana (and BR) offers nothing to an outsider. The litter is disgusting, the crime, the schools, the one-track economy.... it just gets exhausting after a while.

Most degrees don’t translate well to here at all, and let’s admit that unless you majored in engineering, p-tech, medical, or went to law school; you really don’t have much of a demand. The schools are horrible everywhere in the state, and everyone has to pay private school tuition. Also, we’re in the bottom 5 for median household income, yet Louisiana’s COL is somewhere in the 20’s. That doesn’t make sense. I know this thread specifically said BR, but BR seems to go as the state goes so the two are really one and the same.
