Oh god. The boardwalk? That place is dead. Every store is closed down it had so much potiential then just failed. Definitely not better than what metro BR has to offer shopping wise. Cabellas, Bass Pro, Perkins Rowe, Mall of LA and everything surrounding it. It’s no mystery why Top Golf decided to build there..

Usually why I don’t take the OT all that seriously in BR discussions.

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t think Baton Rouge is all that bad. There’s plenty of pros just like there’s plenty of cons. The OT is full of miserable, negative arse people who will find something wrong with literally anything you discuss.

The bad areas can largely be easily avoided. The vast majority of SBR is fine.
The traffic sucks arse but we solved that problem by living close to my daughter's school and work. My 5 mile commute is the longest in our house.

You base a city's value off of malls? You some kindve queer, son?

I loved it for a while. LSU and the friends I made there kept that alive. As friends moved away and I started working there, I saw the real BR. It’s a shithol
This is exactly how I feel. College was awesome, but BR for people out of college blows

I'm not a Debbie Downer and BR isn't the worst place in the world. However, it's high tax, high crime, litter is bad, chain central, and traffic is absolutely outrageous compared to what it should be.
With all of that said, most of those aren't exclusive to Baton Rouge, which is why i moved out of state.

I was over there for the day a few weeks back while wife went to some chick function, in the highland-seigan area, and for no reason in the world I had this feeling about missing living there. It’s been 20 years since I lived in BR. Nothing I could put my finger on, I just always liked the feeling of that area.

I like Baton Rouge. I moved away after graduating from LSU. Was happy to come back. I don’t like the current city leadership but love my neighbors, my church, my job and LSU.

Just moved from BR to just north of Dallas. Greatest thing that ever happened to me. I was that guy who loved BR. Took about 3 days and I realized how terrible BR is. Being a cop in BR also brings out all the bad about it.

There’s nothing quite like the charm of Cortana on a Saturday night. So much culture, sights, and sounds. How could anyone not love it?

I liked Baton Rouge well enough. Fun downtown area, good brewpubs and beer gardens, lax alcohol laws, and the people generally lack the arrogance that comes with people from other southern LA cities.
That said, I was ready to leave, and I wouldn't come back for anything less than triple what I make now.

Imagine when these people get old. They're already miserable

I do. Grew up in BR, went to LSU, raising a family in BR, plan to live here or near here when I retire. It has problems, I am aware. That said, I am proud to call it home, I don’t care what the naysayers are all about. I love my job, my kid’s school, our church, and my family is here. Not far from some of the best fishing and hunting in the country. I feel blessed to call it home.

Yep. It's hard for me to place a value on my daughter growing up around her grandparents, cousins etc.
I'd like to eventually move away from the heat, humidity and flat terrain but that's just a personal preference.

Used to adore it.
Still has its charms.
Went downhill FAST. Now I wish we lived out of LA completely.
Same.
Wish I could save a ton of money and then move somewhere. Probably going to end up moving somewhere when I'm broke in 2020

Love? No. But I think it gets an unfair amount of bashing and being shat on. Its got ita problems no doubt, but there's been an influx of life and culture in the last decade.
