It beats the hell out of Memphis and Pittsburgh, at least in the areas I care about.

I love LSU's part of Baton Rouge. Beyond that, it is just a another city.

I’d move back in a heartbeat if my career took me there.

Unfortunately I see Detroit or Chicago metro in my future. In both cases I’ll definitely be doing the boring suburb thing.

I already have a place in West Loop in Chiraq for work. I certainly don’t dislike that town either. Just don’t want my family to live there. I’d much rather a small/mid sized metro like Baton Rouge, Omaha, or Columbus.

Lots of depression in this thread.

Look, BR could do a lot to improve. I don't think anyone's denying that. But for whatever it's worth, it's the best city in the state to live in outside of New Orleans.

See my opinion on Nola is, it’s an awesome place to visit but I wouldn’t live there. Br is close enough to go to all the events in Nola then come home. That’s another pro for br. It’s proximity to Nola.

Great place to visit 7 weekends a year.

Horrible place to live.

However, south Louisiana is a great place to be in regards to the culture, great fishing, food and people.

But Baton Rouge itself blows, too tied to petrochemical.

Once the lawmakers start building infrastructure necessary and get the good old boy crew out office, then BR MIGHT make some strides.

I think it is truly an an awful town. The older I have gotten, my love for LSU athletics is not what it once was. Other priorities have taken center stage. Removing LSU from the equation, I find Baton Rouge to be a boring, dirty, futile town with no identity. Now, adding LSU back into the equation, it doesn't resemble any charm of a "college town" (e.g. Athens, Chapel Hill, Oxford).

The music scene (largely due to the 70 miles drive to New Orleans) is a joke. It's too far for quick day drips to the beach. It offers little to no outdoor activities (unless you make the 1 hour drive to Tunica Falls - which still is fleeting compared tons of other states). The food scene is forgettable. Don't even get me started on the weather. If you like steady muggy heat, it's great. Everything is centered around LSU which is fine and all, but as mentioned earlier, my interest in LSU athletics just isn't what it used to be. I'm not going to be sitting at Alex Box Stadium on a Wednesday night game against Sam Houston State, or at the PMAC on Tuesday night to see the Tigers play Arkansas-Little Rock. Hell, I won't even go see LSU play their cupcake teams (and lower level SEC opponents) in football.

If you like it, great. It isn't for me.

I was talking to Mrs. Dcline yesterday about looking at Rhode Island or central Mass in the future.

You can’t beat New England in the summer. Get yourself out to the Cape or Maine this summer, baw.

2 degrees in 5 years at LSU. 8 total years in that shithole. My opinion is qualified.

Just went to Kennebunkport for Father's Day this past Sunday. Might be my new favorite NE town. Went to Plum Island and enjoyed a day on the beach the weekend before that.

Already have trips to Portland, Vermont, Portsmouth, and the Cape planned in the next month.

Damn that is harsh and this is coming from a North LA Gump.

I had a branch office in Geismar. Worked out of it about 3 or 4 days a month and usually stayed in Gonzales. If a town has a gym, a jits school, some decent golf, and access to good hunting/fishing then it checks all my boxes. Since I consider Gonzales/Prarieville and BR the same, I have really no issues with BR. Would live and take the hazing for flying my Bama flag with pride.

Lived there for 34 years b4 I moved due to work.

Once I got out i realized how Bad BR is.

As much as I love South Louisiana, I dislike BR that much and more.

I thought Baton Rouge was a great place when I moved there for college. Then I entered adulthood and left, and realized how awful of a city it really is.

I cannot even remotely consider ever living there again. My life would have to be in shambles.

I grew up in BR and my parents still live there. It will always have a special place in my heart because it’s my home town. It’s not as bad as many people think. That said, the city is in dire need of a leadership change. Broome’s administration has been nothing short of a disaster from day one. I’ll always look at BR as a city that has great potential that will likely never be reached.

Anyone who travels and pays attention to what's different between Baton Rouge and where they travel can't honestly say yes to your question.

It's home to a whole bunch of us, but by and large I find that everything is so trashed up in Louisiana. And that is literally and figuratively speaking.

I really have no idea how you can defend that, unless you're in complete denial.

Understood. I live in a suburb of Houston or did, I am moving back home to NE LA. However, I spent enough time in and around BR to have a good idea what it would be like living there. Honestly, I doubt I would love it if I had to live there. I like Laffy and Lake Chuck better, but I would not hate it like a lot of posters in this thread do.
