Barking, jumping to "greet" people and slobbering all over are my main gripes about dogs. Visiting a friend and opening the door to their bigass labracarpets jumping up to punch you in the chest and slobber all over your arms and legs makes me never want to get a dog.

quote:Funny enough one of my cats will lick my head when I haven't showered recently (to groom/clean me) and after petting him for a couple minutes he'll turn around and lick my hand to "pet me" back
I don't have dogs, but I have a cat. She's not really a licker.

The dogs mouth is alot cleaner than humans.

Someone else has probably already mentioned it, but there are several studies showing that children who grow up in homes with dogs go on to have healthier immune systems provided the dog spends X amount of time outside each day. If anything, the dog is going to make your grandson healthier in the long run. Go Google it, and you will feel better.

The worst thing is all the hair they shed. Impossible to keep a nice home.

The more the kid is exposed to now (dirt, animals, etc) the less likely it will affect him later in life.

I love dogs but I’m not a fan of licking. Especially my hands and anywhere near my face. Mine is obsessed with sneaking in licks even tho she knows I don’t like it very much. She gets a hall pass but I try not to let random dogs lick me. Many dogs eat their own hot steamy shite so I’ve never bought the whole “a dogs mouth is cleaner” bs.

Our 5 yr old Lab likes to go exploring. We live in the country. She’ll come parading back to the house with random deer bits. Sometimes a piece of hide, right now it’s the bones from a front leg… hoof and all. She’s very proud of it. Doesn’t chew on it but carried it around wherever we go outside. She knows to drop it before entering the house. As soon as we go back outside she immediately picks it back up.
It’s funny to watch her terrorize the live deer with it chasing after them with parts of one of their fallen hanging out of her mouth.
Back to the question, I still let her lick me. Not immediately after carrying that thing around but a couple hours later.

Anyone else bothered when a dog licks a person - especially faces?

Not many on this board are going to care if their dogs licks a child’s face. People care more about their pets than other human beings now. Humanization of dogs has been an ongoing phenomenon for the last quarter century in the U.S. There is a direct correlation between the humanization of pets and the collective decline of humanity in the U.S. over the same time period.

My lab isn't a licker, thank goodness.

I'm not a dog person. Somewhere in the top five reasons why is the whole lick their arse, then lick your face thing. No thanks, Fido.

No worse than kissing your girlfriend or wife after she sucked your neighbors dick. Spend more time worrying about shite that matters.

We have a Husky/GSD mix that doesn’t lick us. He is more apologetic than aggressive in his mannerisms.
One of my sons has 2 Goldens and they are lickers and can’t seem to stop wanting to lick hands, arms, legs or whatever. So, I just say no to them a lot.
