I really like dogs, I’ve almost always owned them - labs to be specific.

However, I do not allow them to lick me or other people. There is no way I want a butt sniffing and licking dogs mouth on me or anyone else.

What’s got me bothered is my son and daughter in law have a dog who licks. I don’t let him lick me and for those two I figure whatever, but now my grandson is in the picture (he’s about 5 months old) and my DIL allows the dog to lick him in the face and mouth. I know better to say anything to her (not a hill to battle for) so I’m in here venting I guess.

Anyone else bothered when a dog licks a person - especially faces?

The usual excuse is "a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's" which couldn't be further from the truth.

No. My little dog is a licker. She wants to be up in your face and giving kisses. I think its awesome.

Also, there is a lot of research into microbiota that indicates being around animals can actually improve your health by influencing your gut microbiome. Being around animals and digging in the garden are very beneficial for your overall health.

Yeah I have had labs for 50 years. And I still hate when the licks commence. Just a thing for me.

I have and love dogs. I don’t let them on the furniture or definitely not in the bed tho. Think that’s pretty disgusting when people sleep with their animal.

I don’t allow animals to lick me as I don’t want their anal and genital microbiota on me.

Simple as that.

Agree. Ours is freakin cute (GR) but we’re keenly aware of what and where he licks. No lick policy here, grosso.

Dogs and cats licking me gross me out. Especially around the face.

A puppy nibble on the hand is tolerable. But the face? frick all that.

one of my neighbors dogs is a huge licker. we went over there recently and when the door opened up, he shot out and started rustling in the bushes and i caught him eating cat poop.

then he went inside and tried to lick me and i wasn't having it.

so, no a dog's mouth is definitely not cleaner than a humans.

I don't care when mine lick me. Just not in the mouth, that's pretty gross. I love when they lay on me/cuddle up and go to sleep on the couch or something. Just kind of comforting.

My wife is the opposite, she doesn't let them lick her. They know they can lick me and not her. She could stick her face right up to them and they won't lick her. I'm a softy with my dogs so I let them do whatever they want.

Its one of those things that is kinda gross but doesn't really bother me. I don't think about it too deep. I don't have dogs, but I have a cat. She's not really a licker.

To own and enjoy dogs is to let them express their affection by licking you.

Except my wife’s chihuahua. Her breath smells like warmed over death. She is forbidden to lick.

Nope, but I drink out of the hose too! The crap living inside of me can handle much worse than some dog spit.

Curious,

I let my English Bulldog lick me (not my face) because he literally cannot lick his arse or genitals. He just can't reach them.....

Yeah I can't stand dogs that lick.

My lab knows this so she will sit about 4 ft away from a person and lick at them.
