The family is originally from St. Tammany. My old man moved to BR after college because that is where the work was. We all ended back up here.

For the longest time, I was one of BR’s biggest cheerleaders. This was in that tiny envelope in like 2001 - right after Kip got his first mayoral term and the Metro Council was starting to be targeted by the youth. To be honest, it was probably just me but it felt like there was this progressive/libertarian push. Blue laws were changing. The old guard was lightening up...

But then something happened.

As I know now, any progressive movement in the south is eventually bastardized and taken over. A decade and a half later, C. Denise Marcelle and Sharon Weston Broome are in charge and things are literally shittier than ever here.

Even with the St. George push... I don’t give enough fricks to fight it. I make a living here. My family is here. I can’t leave (yet). But motherfricker if I don’t feel the pull every day of my life.

This shithole is a neverending cancer.

True, Causeway commute is brutal. My office is in Mandeville. I don’t think I’ve crossed the Causeway in two months.

I’ll take an active population, great economy, great public schools, and zero crime everyday over southern politics, daily murders, and private school tuition.

Call me a hipster. I don’t really give a shite.

What in the actual frick do they have to be stuck up about? They live in a refinery town that happens to have a college.

Baton Rouge isn't a bad place to live. Not sure why it gets all the hate. I've been here for almost 8 years and I absolutely love it.

Also, there is no part of New Orleans that is "charming". One of the most overrated cities in America.

Do what I did. Move out of Baton Rouge, and Louisiana altogether.

Best decision that I have ever made.

Same here. I’m one of the many who have made a better life in Texas.

I liked BR when I lived there 1998-2007. Had good times and made fond memories. but I’d never want to go back. The thought alone is gross.

Absolutely. I’d move to just outside of Nashville, Denver, or the outskirts of Fort Worth in a heartbeat. Pretty much anywhere in the US other than Mississippi or Alabama is going to be a net benefit.
