When NOLA gets it right and does it well it might be the best place on this planet. When the ugly side show itself it feels like a third world country. It leaves us all with a love and disdain for the city.

You’ve shown your bias.

Your dinner mate has a legitimate concern. But I do agree some of the best food comes from Nola.

NO is a shite hole and there’s only ONE reason why it turned into one and will always be one forever and ever.

The only area that has a fighting chance is the French Quarter and it’s slipping away too. Wall it off and make it a privately owned area Only then it might survive with some semblance of what it was once.

It’s a damn shame but it is a shite hole.

New Orleans is the second to biggest major metro shite hole in the United States. Second to Baton Rouge.

Third on the list is Jackson.

Truth hurts.

If your not into eating/food/drinking and look at it strictly from its a city perspective...its like any place.
The city has a few nice areas(getting fewer and fewer)
Bad leadership, crappy infrastructure, airport is ok, job market is driven by tourism, as most big companies have pulled out(there are O/G, shipping, healthcare jobs).Workforce is below average....Go there for work monthly its ok but nothing to brag about.

Saying New Orleans isn’t safe isn’t bad mouthing New Orleans. It’s telling the truth about New Orleans.

This is where I'm at. I so bad want it to be what it can be but if its own residents don't give a damn about fixing it then why should I?

Such a shame.

I basically get pissed at any outsiders who bash the South in general.

My former Yankee in laws literally couldn't contain themselves - we're stupid, it's ugly, whatever, I was always like well wtf are you doing here? Oh yeah, we have a functioning state with a real economy, remember, you ungrateful frickers?

I never said a word bc they were my wife's parents and in any event I am a Southern gentleman, but geez, I couldn't stand those people. They probably felt the same way about me.

New Orleans has been a horrible city for a long time and is somehow still rapidly declining.

The remainder of my immediate family is leaving Louisiana finally, so I don’t think I’ll ever have to set foot in NOLA again.

Nothing worse than Yankee carpetbaggers.
Remind them the north bound lanes of the interstate highways are open 24 / 7.
Those aholes have helped drive up property prices and turned states bluer with their politics.
