I grew up in Covington very near to St. Paul's. My best friend's house got demolished in Katrina, another friend a few houses down got shot in the face in New Orleans East with his own gun, another friend recently died of a heart attack, my brother got electrocuted, and my sister is not nice. It is now overrun with New Orleans overflow and traffic. Yeah. Going home is not a happy time.

Grew up in Gonzales and moved away in late nineties after serving in the Navy. Feel like a stranger in my home town. If I go with my family I usually have to be introducedLOL

no... Raceland is awesome, and still the same, for the most part, as when i left 15 years ago....
i used to get sentimental when i'd visit, but i realized that i was missing not the place but the time... the JR and SR years of HS, the summer before 1st semester in college, back when I had no responsibilities to have to take care of... only thing we worried about was money for gas, money for alcohol, dip, and where we were playing pedro (card game from Lafourche Parish) that night...
once i realized i can always go home, just not to that particular time and era, i got over it... love visiting, and seeing random HS people that thought they were the shite back then, that ain't much of nothing today... kinda funny, IMO...

Mother has passed. Dad sold their home and moved to Zachary, which isn't home for/to me.

I grew up in Prairieville, late 1970s.
Played & explored Bayou Manchac, roamed the woods and cow pastures for hours on end.
Hunted birds, snakes and turtles with my ole trusty Benjamin pellet rifle.
Moved up to Ouachita parish as a young kid. Joined the military after high school and have been living up here in northwest Ouachita parish since.
Now I drive through Prairievile and Baton Rouge and I get sick to my stomach.
I have contemplated moving back a time or two but the area no longer has that 'country' feel to it like when I was kid. It has basically turned into a huge cluster.

My parents retired, sold their house, and moved to the hunting camp. So there's no going back home. Didn't think it would, but it kind of bothered me for awhile.

There's definitely a latent wish to be a kid again, while at the same time, being driven crazy by family.

I grew up in Baton Rouge...it's grown too much for me. My actual neighborhood though hasn't changed much. A lot of the families on my old street have passed away or moved away. My folks were one of the last "originals" from the early 70's but after my father retired they sold the house and moved back to Madisonville, which he considers home. I spent a lot of time during the summers and holidays with my grandparents in Madisonville, so in a way it's home too. Last I heard the people who bought the house in Baton Rouge plan on tearing it down and building a bigger place on the lot
