Does anyone else feel like there is a lot more “news” in recent years than before?

Every day I wake up, look at news and something big has happened

For most of my life, there was maybe 1 or 2 news stories a week.

Now, there are 4-5 daily

Big events are out of news cycle in 48 hours

If Vegas shooting happened in 90s, it would be a 4 month story

Gotta have likes and comments.

Must have something to release no matter how true or not it is

It's the Trump effect. Everything is made out to be the end of the world now as an effort to get Trump. It's nonstop every day

It would be today but there was something there that made them drop the story like it was hot. We will never know the truth of that event

The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America by political historian Daniel J. Boorstin explains this phenomenon.

Nope...its all democratic and republican fed and led "stories" trying to push me into caring about stuff that is nothing more than crap. Most "news" today is opinions..just look at the 3 "news" cable channels websites right now and most of their crap is opinions that are right there with the news. Actual real investigative journalism is dead because its not a money maker nor brings in the ratings or views so its not good for business. $$$ still rules it all.

There’s a lot more news outlets than before, and there’s always been a ton of news. It just isn’t deemed news until the powers that be don it as being news.

No.

There are a lot more people trying to “create” news.

The media companies are businesses. They want you to keep coming back.

The best way to do that is to suck you in with bullshite “breaking news”.

You tend circle the drain faster and faster as empires collapse. And we are watching an empire collapse in real time right now. Degeneracy, corruption, greed and a loss of shared values have rotted the foundation of this country.

The amount of news has been relatively constant, in proportion to the population, for forever.

What has changed is how we consume news; we cover it more heavily than ever, comment on it more heavily than ever, and have commoditized the industry of finding the next story and packaging it for consumption to a degree that would floor people in the past.

When a “news story” can be about what three deranged people tweeted about a particular topic, then yes, you will absolutely get more “news stories”.
