Does anybody keep a can or two of gasoline on hand for generators?

Or do you restock in anticipation you may need it. I'm curious because so far I've had good luck not being affected by storms but the longer I live in south Louisiana the more likely obviously that luck is going to eventually run out. Can you store gasoline for a long period of time?

Once the hurricane passes just put it in your vehicle and refill when the next one approaches.

No. Gas goes bad if it sits for too long and can ruin the engine.

I keep the 2003 Envoy that we maintain as a hooptie / dump run vehicle full so I can siphon if needed. Tank is probably 18-20 gallons.

I would collect about 15 gallons a few days before the storm. If I didn't use it in the generator, it went into the cars.

Yes sir I just went fill my dads cans with non ethonal for him. I'll probably head to houston anyway as I have 2 interviews next week

Put stabil in the gas you are storing.
Stabil claims it will keep the gas fresh for 2 years.....I trust it for 6 months. If I haven't used the gas I just put it in my car.
Never an issue.

Switch over to a propane generator. Never have to worry about it again.

Get non-ethanol gas and if it's not available near you just get stabilizer.

Buy non-ethanol, maybe add a fuel stabilizer, and use it after hurricane season. Maybe halfway through the season, start over.

I keep about 50 gallons on hand all the time, we burn about 30 per month between the lawnmowers and 4 wheelers though. Use stabil if you aren’t going to use it for a few months.

I have 1 gallon of TrueFuel 4-cycle for my generator just to get it up and running out of storage. I have a 5-gallon Justrite steel fuel can that has 93-octane Shell with a heavy dose of Stabil 360 in it for my yard equipment. I don't keep gallons just for the generator but I'll have a few ready and can get more as needed. The TrueFuel stuff is great for end of season flushing and storage too.

This. Get regular gas and add Stilbil gas treatment. I had used it a year later and was good. Egas starts to breaks down after about 30 days.

Generator is automatic and runs on natural gas. In my opinion the best part of our house....

All my generators but one are natural gas. Before I converted them, I used to fill up a few cans and cycle through them with the mower during hurricane season. Now I just keep one full and use it to top off the small mix one for the weed eater and to keep the edger full. I get the non ethanol in that can and hit it with stabil, but I do use it up fairly quickly. Mower is diesel now so it can’t help much.

2. buy stabile
follow instructions
3. get rid of the old stuff. and be damn sure theres none in your lines. you will play hell cleaning it if you leave old gas in.it.
