I just got a dog for my son’s birthday a month ago. He is a maltipoo and was always happy and full of energy. Yesterday I brought him to PetSmart to get a haircut and ever since I picked him up he has not been himself. Since yesterday he just stays in one place and not running around like his old self. He looks all sad and scared. I didn’t know if anybody else had something similar happen to their dog?

Take it to the vet

He may have been injured during grooming
There are horror stories online about groomers at PetSmart

Find someone with their own small business based off recommendation

It’s pretty normal for a dog to act timid after being groomed. Some stranger just removed a majority of their hair...if the same happened to you, you’d probably act weird too. You could always put a shirt or sweater on it until it gets out of its funk

You don't get a dog groomed at PetSmart. Those people get like 2 days of training.

You’re an animal that entrusts a human to feed and care for you in exchange for your undying devotion.

Now that human brought to a human you are unfamiliar with and left you with them unsure if they will return. In which they used a loud device to remove your your only last security, your fur. Makes you question things.

Very definition of being broken.

Find a local business to take your dog to. One trip to PetSmart and our dog is terrified of going back.

Since we've found a local place that actualy cares about dogs though we've had no issues.

They probably drugged him, or smacked him around. Seriously.

I have one that hates the groomer. She shakes and cries and acts like she is going to slaughter when she is dropped off, but acts completely fine when I pick her up.

Take him to the vet and get him checked out. Petsmart groomers aren't known for being the best at taking care of dogs.

Then find a groomer near you with good recommendations on Yelp or Facebook.

Possible that the dog could be allergic to the shampoo they used. It happened to my daughter's dog once. Check the under belly as well as the arm and leg pits for a rash. Otherwise it really could be as simple as a becoming acclimated to the haircut especially if it's a very young dog. If you say you got the dog a month ago it's still adjusting to the new surroundings and routine.

Eta: We used to use PetSmart in BR for a while because we were lucky to get a good groomer the first time. Then when that girl left the others were just shite. We now use Best In Show over on Perkins if you happen to be in BR.

Nope. Any and all “maltipoos” are female. They reproduce like plant budding

Here is a legit answer...you need to take it to the vet. We just dealt with this.

Some groomers will express the anal glands of your dog but only the exterior. There is a set of interior ones that the vet does. So what happens when one set is expressed and not the other? Irritation and uncomfortableness.

My dog was acting the same way. Took to the vet. Fixed him up. Good as new.

Yes...did they shave your dog? If so that's the problem; the dog could be cold. Give it a couple of days.
