Doctors attach man's severed hand to his leg to keep it alive (nSFW?)

It’s from 2013 but new to me, amazing what they can do
LINK
Doctors were hopeful they could reattach the hand but not immediately. In order to stop the severed hand from dying they attached it to Xiao's ankle
According to doctors, Xiao will need to undergo several other surgeries but they are hopeful that he will regain full function of his hand

Crazy medical stuff like that comes along now and then. I think a guy once had most of his arm attached to his leg one time.

It's crazy.
We rescued a guy in big lake a few years ago who was thrown from his boat which then sharked him and the prop took 99% of hand off.
We pulled him out and put the hand with the arm and wrapped it. It was mangled to hell the tendons looked like broken piano wire and got him to the landing where we called and had an ambulance waiting.
The best hand surgeon in SWLA was fricking on call with luck and was able to reattach.
Hands are tricky shite and I've read where if they can't get to limb to the condition of reattaching they will look at other means to supply blood to keep it alive until that point they can reattach.
Side note. Wear bright colored life jackets and a fixing kill switch.

He can scratch his foot and cut his toenails without any trouble.

He should have just left it.

In my head I was saying I don’t want to see that but my thumb clicked it faster then my brain could keep up

Was that Dr. Weber? Or did Lake Charles get another hand surgeon? Just curious.

Did it work? No spoilers since 2013 right?
Def don’t want to google.

Don't know. He called to thank us about a month later. He was in shock so bad we barely got his back it off him.

I’d love to hear the story of the first doctor that ever tried this. “Hey look guys, hear me out on this. I’ve been doing some reading and I think we can attach it to his ankle.”..and it worked lol
