It also depends what I’m there for. I have gotten up and left before when I just just had something fairly minor. If I’m refilling my adderal or Klonopin I’ll probably sit there and wait for as long as it takes because I’m not trying to be without them and adderal requires a handwritten prescription monthly.

Most college professors with PhDs keep office hours and you can just show up. Usually a 5-10 min wait max.

What prompted this thread was today’s wait. They called me back 9 minutes past appointment time. And now I’ve sat in the exam room for 11 minutes so far. I’m not aggravated yet.

It's an appointment. I bitch at doctors about making me late for other things. frick them.

If i have an appt then i would give them 15 minutes ( which is the amount of time they give patients before telling you to reschedule ) before i start bitching.
If It's an emergency room visit then I understand that's it 1st come 1st serve and i have to wait my turn. Luckily we have a really good ER here so that's never been an issue.

Then you should account for that in appointment times and not over-book.

Listen: I married a nurse. I would pick her up at night after work. Many times she would work over and I would be pissed. She said, Roy I can't leave a patient that is critical just because the clock says 11:PM.
Made sense to me.
A Dr. makes rounds around 7:00 AM at the Hospital to see his patients. Many times there are problems that he must address before he goes to the office.
Healthcare workers don't work 9-5.
If you don't like it wait until we have universal healthcare. The government will fix it. Government workers don't work over. Many just work until noon on Friday. I use the term "work" loosely.

Longest I ever had to wait was at the old Conway hospital in monroe, la.
Was a charity hospital I found myself at. 6 hour wait, but i had to be there for their nuclear medicine.

I always make sure I'm the first appointment of the day. I'll get there at 7am and make it 3 months in advance. I don't care.

I call him on his cell phone and we figure out the time he can see me.

last time i went to the doctor i had an 11:45 appointment, doctor came in back door at 12:30 and they called me in at 1:00. i said to the girl "he must be running late today" and she responded "no, we just schedule appointments early to make sure the waiting room is full when the doctor arrives" she said it allows them to get the most patients in and out in one day"
i no longer let them schedule me at or around noon.
another time, my dad went to his doctor for a 4 pm appointment, they brought him to the room around 4:30 and closed the door and he waited and waited and at about 5:10 he went open the door to ask them and the lights were off and he was locked inside. they frickin went home and just left him there waiting in the exam room
he had to call the cops and it took an hour to get someone to come unlock the door so he could leave

To me it's not how long you'll wait...but whether or not ANY wait is worth it. My wife has cervical neck issues. Last time we were seeing this neuro surgeon he told us it wasn't bad enough...1 hour wait + copay...nothing going on. Now after trying nerve blocks, RFAs, and PT...no joy and she's on FMLA due to the pain and headaches it causes...so we go back...2 hour wait this time (appt was at 715, saw PA at 915). But this time they acknowledged something surgical has to be done. So we go for MRIs as soon as the insurance gets off their asses and ok's it.

In Baton Rouge at least, the top doctors will have you waiting forever. Especially specialists.

why is my foot still hurting...on the tail end of a 6 week gout flare up. Is this unheard of?
(see how long he replies/my wait time)
