How long will you wait past your appointment time before you say something? I’d like both patient’s and doctors opinions on the matter.

My wife manages a very busy doctor's office, so I now completely understand how they get behind so easily. I now know to either schedule appointments first thing in the morning, or right after lunch.

I schedule every appointment at 9 am right when they open so I usually don’t have to sit long unless the doc is dicking around and late

How sick are you?
If you have blood leaking out your eyeballs, I’d give them an extra bit of time

Since he already has my copay, I'm waiting the long haul like everyone else.

Because they have unqualified people running the show?

Just go to the ER for your headache like all the people you’re already paying for in your taxes with our socialized healthcare.

As a pt I get annoyed after 30 min.
As a PODIATRIST, on our busy days we can sometimes be over an hour behind. I always apologize profusely. I
Usually what happens is you get 1 pt that has some unexpected extremely complicated issue and it throws a wrench into everything.

If we are just talking your normal GP everyday doc here I feel those people should be given some kind of holdover medicine and sent to a specialist.

For people who say doctors should just schedule fewer patients...on any given day we can have 10% or more no show rate. Just like any other business we have to see enough volume to keep the doors open.

If I have been referred to a specialist, maybe 45 minutes if it isn't going to blow up the rest of my day. My personal Doc has never made me wait. If she ever does, as long as my schedule allows because I would know that there is a damned good reason. She has done a lot of favors for us over the years from house visits on up.

15 minutes. I have some doctors that see me exactly when I am supposed to be seen. I have other doctors to where you are doing good if they see you within 20 minutes of your appointment time. It chaps my butt that some offices will penalize you for being late to an appointment, but if they are late for you you are supposed to just take it.

10-15 minutes before I ask for an update. If waiting is something that is the norm, I end up switching Dr's.

Depends on how good the doctor is. My mother had a cardiologist on the Northshore that would consistently be 45 minutes or more late. At first, it pissed me off terribly (I went with my mother to appts). But when we got in to see him, he was attentive and took as long as he needed to. It helped that he was friendly and my mom liked him.
As time went on, he got some of the kinks worked out and we would see him in 20 or 30 minutes. But by then it didn't matter. We were going to wait if it took all day.

If you do not want to wait then get up and leave.
People do it all the time when standing in lines at grocery stores or convenient stores or when waiting on a train (making a u-turn).
