I don't use rideshare apps as often as a lot of people but I tip well because 9 out of 10 times when I use them it is high demand times or out of the way routes so I want to look like a good fare.

I assume tipping well is a big part of how they rate me.

I know this place has some really questionable views on tipping in general, which is mitigated by some really asinine services asking for tips nowadays, but I really have one question for you.

Why would you not tip your Uber or cab driver?

Do you ever ask if people tip their bartenders or servers?

Usually $1 or $2 in the app

Yes. A couple extra bucks out of my pocket means nothing to me. It’s a living wage for those people. And tipping well tends to get me better repeat service, so it has advantages for me too. If you’re too poor to tip your driver or your server, you’re too poor to go out

The whole point of rideshare apps was cut this bs out. However, always have that guy thinking he's going to be special and help out more. F that.
cut out tipping? Or cut out cash? It's America, you can't cut out tipping. If it were me I'd prefer unregulated cash over a digital tip.

Nope. All you’re doing is driving

At least half of people don't. I'm not expecting 10 buck tips on every trip, and I understand that I am driving people to work at times, but even one dollar helps pay for the gas it took me to drive you there.

A lot of customers don't realize that Uber has lowered pay to the point that the heavy-traffic trip that took 20 minutes when it should have taken 5-10? Your driver got like 5-6 bucks for that, with some of that money going to gas/car expenses.

Generally we tip waitstaff because we know they get paid sub- minimum wages and tips make up large share of their take home. Uber drivers keep majority of their fares (like 75% or higher). They are already getting paid for their services. If I puked or something maybe but why would I tip an extra $10 on top of my $50 ride in the back of a janky arse Honda that smells like weed? Especially when surge charged after concerts and sports events

And this is where you're mistaken. Uber drivers used to receive 75%+ of the fare...nowadays? 40-60%.

It's not, if they give you a bad rating they will un-pair with you.
As the majority of rides don't tip, they would be cutting their potential rider base.
Still for every 2 nice drivers, there is some dude whos car does stink of weed who is blasting music and barely acts like you are there.

If you want the driver again it's worth tipping.

But it should NOT be a default.

Only took a ride share 1 time in my life.
The guy was very professional, gave us all water, and I gave him a tip.

A friend of mine drove for Uber on the weekend during the pandemic just to make some extra money (Well it was late 2020 into 2021). He told it took a lot for him to give someone a low rating. He said he received some really good tips. And drove people who talked and was friendly, but didn't tip.. And he really based his rating on the behavior of the passenger, which if I remember correctly he said he never had anyone that was downright terrible.

He did tell me that he had to pick up an older couple off Bluebonnet and bring them to St. Francisville. And they had good conversation, talked about family, etc and when he dropped them off the old man handed him a hundred.

Sorry, was not clear. Cut out cash. That was the point of apps.

Yes, be generous. It's tough work with often bad hours or a second job.
