For once, you're not wrong. Like others have said humanity is inherently flawed and violent.

People that blame video games and movies are dumbasses that don't want to blame people for being straight up assholes that can't live in a society.

It's not the single cause, but it certainly doesn't help.

I would argue that it desensitizes people. He vast majority of people know how to seperate fact from fiction, and then there are those who dont. I wonder what it is that causes people to not be able to distinguish between the 2 in their head.

For example, if I'm watching a tv show or movie, and someone that I don't like dies. I might get happy because I hated their character. In real life though, I could never feel that way about someone, ever.

I grew up playing CS, de_dust2 all throughout high school.
Also played Halo with neighborhood friends (yeah yeah not real shooting game).

I'm not violent, I think its a huge cop out.

Reality is, some kids are raised without very good parenting or coping mechanisms. As they grow older and have more autonomy, they still don't understand how to cope and when something occurs in their lives they don't know how to react. Some do drugs, some gamble, and reality is some do violent things.

Starts with raising awareness and offering more help to those who need it than blaming Call of Duty.

They blamed movie and TV violence, in particular the fact that it depicted "sanitized" versions of violence with very little blood and quick deaths without pain, etc. Also, violent children's cartons, westerns and cop shows got the most grief. There were a few other things.

As a result, we ended up with a lot of the stupid kids cartoon and a decline in westerns and cop shows for a while.

I agree with former Justice Scalia: no.

The "Bob Newhart Show" ran from 1972 until 1978, and was followed by "Newhart" from 1982 until 1990. I think it is very obvious what is to blame here.

The without causation piece is a bit of a stretch.

I really don't feel like the world by and large is anymore violent now than it has been. I actually think it's a lot tamer in comparison, but the Internet and other things have it a lot smaller so we see all the bad things happening that didn't really get heard about 50 years ago and were reported by the local news in the areas where they happened.

I think the 24 hour news cycle and the constant barrage of the killer's actions and their face for a solid week or more has more to do with instilling violence in people than video games and television dramas.

A vast majority of the population today wants instant gratification. They want to have their spotlight and people talk about them. Some of these people have underlying mental issues or are just plain fricking evil and see that they can get the attention they want by doing something like mass murder.

It is more complicated than that. I think the video games and violent tv shows are a symptom, not the cause, of a society that glorifies violence. Violent acts in real life and the game that comes with those acts are another symptom.

The solution is much more complicated and requires more than the the easy emotional reaction to just ban guns.
