Bill Clinton proved that you can just burn your draft card and give the Government the ole bird. And nothing will be done to you, in fact your could actually be president one day.

You mean people don't want to sign up to sit through diversity and sensitivity classes, just to die in some foreign land for a rainbow flag?

Do you agree with what he said? Should we start expecting mandatory military service in our country soon?

Nope.

When 9/11 happened, there was a pretty good surge in volunteers. If we truly needed to defend this country from a major conflict/attack, enough people would volunteer that we wouldn't need a draft IMO. An attack on American soil by a potential foreign invader has historically united the country.

We're mostly fighting proxy wars these days anyway if we're going to honest about it. And a draft would never fly if it wasn't a direct threat to the US IMO. Not in today's climate.

We can't even define what a male is anymore. How do we draft them? Birth sex or identified sex.

Fat boy platoons will fix that. When the military controls your life completely out of shape and/or fat really isn't an issue if laziness and gluttony are the main causes.

Recruiting will go back up as more and more people can no longer afford college and as the unemploument rate goes up.

Givne our current political leadership, ther's a better chance we shut down our military, then go to a draft.

No, our military is bloated and extremely inefficient with redundancies at every corner. Any leader could get more done by using our forces smarter and closing 2/3 of our state side bases and 1/3 of our oconus bases. Staff positions/Sr leadership positions are bulging at every level, many could easily be cut.

No.

(1) War is fought differently today. The sheer number of individuals is much less important with the technology we have today.

(2) According to the internet, there is over 1 Million active in the US armed forces with another 800k in reserve.

(3) Recruitment spikes after events that lead up to war. Happened after 9/11 and after Pearl Harbor.

Oddly the only people I've ever known that recommended conscription are in their 60s and former NCOs. They both said a peacetime draft is what we need. Last thing we need is trying to lead a bunch of people that dont want to be there. Not to mention the idea of the government forcibly taking years of useful life away without choice is reprehensible short of major national war. Conveniently both were slightly too young to be draft eligible for Vietnam.

if anyone attacked this country - they would be fricked - not just by the military, but the residents as well. the secret to the US, is if it came down to invasion - you would see most everyone band together and see an "army" that has never been seen before.

hell anyone invades the south is gonna be in a world of hurt

I served in the draft Army when everything bottomed out in 1971-2...

it was easy to see the difference in the first generation of volunteers in the late 70's, but you didn't see the true impact until later on with quality recruits coming in...

I do think that a broader pool of recruits would be a good thing, but how we get to that is a question I don't know how to answer right now.
