Support. We've been fleeced for too long.
I go to the airport by Yellow Cab = $65
I go to the airport and drop my dog off for boarding = $29 with Uber.
Frick those people.

Cabbies have never price gouged me
Posted on 10/18/16 at 2:50 pm to Tarik One
Cabs are largely terrible, in my experience....I've had them not pick me up and "cancel" on me without even a phone call.
Then, the last cab I took in downtown Los Angeles didn't carry any change, and wound up tipping him over 15 bucks for a 10 dollar ride. frick. That. Uber forevermore...

Aside from the technology, Uber rides are becoming more and more cab like in my experience. They should really start policing driver conduct and car quality.

I don't agree with that at all. The last time I got an Uber, it was a super hot Ecuadorian chick that talked my ear off and was as sweet as she could be. Definitely never had any of that happen in a cab. Every Uber driver I've ever had has been, at the very least, really nice.

Who cares about the cab industry? The losers in the end are the big boys with big money not the drivers. The drivers rent those cabs for a few hundred a week and they can drive for uber. The ones with big money at risk are the monopolistic oligarchs of the industry who hold multiple medallions that are now worthless. Im not worried about the drivers they can still work, there's plenty of work. The pigs who tried to monopolize the industry for years they deserve the slaughter they're receiving.

Been in a cab once in my 35 years on this earth. Don't really care about their industry. Or uber.

Whats ridiculous is the cost difference, its not even comparable. Uber from my condo to the airport is $13-15 tops while a taxi is a flat fee of $32 or $35 I forgot. This is in miami, not sure if most cities have flat fees to and from the airport but Uber is significantly less there.

Not exactly. If they are smart, they'll buy a fleet of automated cabs. It's essentially part of a ride share program. If you create a large enough pool, most people would never need to own their own car. The biggest hurdle is people with small children.

Cabs are awful. Unposted "special rates", refusal to deliver to certain parts of town (Lakeview, Carrollton), and never showing up on time. I feel no sympathy for those losers.

rced to start accepting credit and debit cards, the cabbies intentionally broke their card readers so that payment via card couldn't be accepted. Once you'd try to pay by card, they'd say they needed cash, and would do shite like say they needed to drive you to an ATM before the ride could end.
Happened to me in New Orleans. I just told the driver "well I only have a card, he said I'll take you to the ATM, I said it was a credit card, so no." Got out of the cab and walked away. He didn't yell at me or anything. I wasn't yelling. Just calmly told him to go frick himself

This gives them a headstart to figure something else out.
They still will NEVER allow drunk people to be in self-driving cars.
Self-driving cars will always require at least 1 sober person with a drivers license in the car. They will have to have manual override in case of emergencies.

Absolutely. I've had an account with United for 5 years. I paid an admin fee of $10 a month, just for the pleasure of never getting a cab. I haven't used my account in a while, so I recently closed it. 0 customer service. Good riddance.

I love it. Cabbies are usually a-holes.
I've had a lot of cabbies take longer routes to try to over charge me.
The accountability of uber and lift make them better
All of this. When I went to NY, my driver passed up my gate completely ignoring me as I was telling him my gate. He drove around in a circle swearing that wasn't my gate up and down just to up the rate, he wasn't very happy when I didn't leave a tip.

Regulation protected cab drivers for decades. I take pleasure in deregulation and fair competition.

Yes, Frick cabs. I love Uber.

About as much as I took pleasure in the decline of blacksmiths.
I live in Louisiana. I own a car.

Trucking industry is going to be transformed by robot driven trucks in the near future. Eventually, they'll be driving all of us and the roads will be safer. Hope it ruins the insurance companies.
