I don't smile at the thought of thousands losing their jobs, but I certainly don't have a problem with capitalism taking its course.

they lowered the rates for the drivers and it ran a bunch of drivers off. there arent enough cars in BR now. they have surge pricing out the arse now. weekend nights are ridiculous now. you used to be able to somewhat get around the surge pricing by ordering the uber select car, but they fixed that. set surge pricing across the board now.

I think for a while everyone thought it was a neat idea to try out being an uber driver. That may be wearing off, and I'll be curious to see if they can retain enough drivers to keep their responsiveness up.

It wears off for anyone who has been driving for longer than a few months. And that dates back several years. You'd be hard pressed to run into a driver who has been doing it for a long time since plenty of them quit.

Yes. In Jax one would never consider a cab ever. Unreliable. Dirty. Expensive. Dirty. Unreliable. Sketchy people.

Now with Uber and Lyft it's so easy and clean.

Ok im talking about BR and the surge pricing. Uber in Houston is light years ahead of ours here. If youre using it every day there, yea you will come out ahead with a surge price here and there.

We have surge pricing during the week at random times because of the lack of drivers. They lowered the rate and plenty of drivers quit.

I cant remember ever having a cab not show up. I always asked how long it would be and if they gave me a 'i dont know', I would call back in 20 minutes and check on it. Youre saying youve waited 4 hours for a cab to just not show up? In those 4 hours, you didnt call the cab company and ask wtf was going on?

Uber is much more reliable than what the cab service was. The app alone is the trump card imo.

My entrance into this thread is that Uber has been on the decline here.

I don't know, I still find it a charming experience to pull out the old yellow pages and call the cab company, then it's just a short two hour wait and I'm on my way to blockbuster to rent some adult movies.

I was in New Orleans two weekends ago and used cabs twice and uber once. Honestly, it doesn't really make a difference to me. All of them were fine. No bad experiences either way.

ETA: In Lafayette though, it's Uber 100% because the taxi situation around here is terrible.

What is the uber situation in London?

At one time, you had to pass a very rigorous test to be a cabbie there.

Yea, I've addressed it plenty. I only experience BR at times when they should have surge pricing. basically every city, including Houston, is going to have surge pricing on Friday nights around closing time.

Yes

Nah, I just waited with a finger up my arse the whole time. Of course I called and was told several times that the driver was en route and other BS.

I've also had scheduled airport appointments impacted by a cab driver being late for the time stated or not showing up in BR.

All I'm saying is that BR didn't have a reliable way to get to/from the bars before Uber. It can NEVER be worse than it was.

10 minutes after arriving in Las Vegas, my wife and I take a cab to our hotel.

The cabbie tells us he is a member of a "biker club" and proceeds to share a story where he had to drive to his niece's college campus (San Diego) to kick the shite out of her bf who laid hands on her.

He told us he was the only member of the family capable of handling the situation because he was an ex-con and "had nothing to lose"

"Welcome to Vegas"

alright I'll give ya that.

The time it would take to walk the mile the cab wouldn't have even arrived lol.

But if you're getting hit with $40 for two miles that's like a 12x surge.

I use uber regularly for 5-6 mile trips and even with a 2x surge it never comes out over 20. Hell, 20 miles here in Atlanta I'm usually paying under 30.

No surge to the bar is around $6.50 to $7. It was 5.5x the price when we just said screw it and started walking to a friends house who lives 2 blocks over to wait out the surge.

Yea it seems like the farther you go, the better the deal is. The pool hall is 8 miles and its around $16 to get there without surge.

It's good to tangentially know one of these type of people. Don't want to be too close to one or know too many of them tho.

I'll still take uber over a cab in houston, but the last several ubers I've ridden in were piloted by women or straight-off-the-boat foreigners that had zero driving skills and couldn't navigate their way out of a wet paper bag. Extremely frustrating to ride with someone that can't follow google maps to get from point a to point b.

NYC cabs > uber. Easier to use, cleaner, and more knowledgeable. Ill use uber xl when extra space is needed.
