In a dim room if I stare into space without blinking for a bit I get something very similar to your second image with the expanding purple patch. But mine usually is collapsing rather than expanding. And it can happen either with my eyes open or closed.

Ever had Robotussin DXM? I describe it as "temporary schizophrenia".

It's funny; I did too but never could remember to research til today.

Very common and most people experience it.

I thought everyone had this happen.

Mine aren't usually bad. But man, about 3 weeks ago, I tried to go to sleep and started having these crazy colors and shapes going crazy. I couldn't sleep at all. It got really intense. I had to turn the tv on and watch for awhile before I could close my eyes again.

I've had level 2 before. I see green flashes. When they happen sometimes I still see them when I open my eyes. It's always in a dark room when I'm trying to fall asleep.

Y'all should go caving. There's absolutely no visible light down there. Get everybody to turn their lights off and after a few minutes you start seeing all sorts of weird shapes and colors and stuff. You can even hear your heartbeat.

Did this in a Missouri cave. It is absolutely trippy as hell being without even a touch of light.

Would not recommend. Did it at Mardi gras once. Not what I'd call a great time, personally.

I wish there were pictures of 2-5. When I close my eyes I see the sketchy darkness but I have whitish oval shaped things that look sorta like fingerprints. Idk what that means.

It is sometimes so vivid I see the face of Satan grinning at me as I drift off. I just have to blink it out for a few minutes first.
