Do you sleep uninterrupted throughout the night, or in two phases?

I have long struggled with sleeping throughout the night as I’ve gotten older, be it to take a leak in the middle of the night, or mostly just because I feel rested, get up to do something or other, and then return to bed an hour or so later to sleep again.
For years I thought there was something off with this, and yearned for my younger days when I could experience uninterrupted sleep or sleep till mid morning on weekends, but as it turns out, apparently sleeping in two phases is actually the way most people used to sleep, but the Industrial Revolution put an end to this being an acceptable practice people did.
Medieval Sleep or Biphasic sleep as it is called is where your first sleep is a deeper sleep for about 4 hours or so, and your second is your morning sleep where people slept until dawn hours. In between is what was called the watch, or watching hours where people would often get up for an hour or two and meditate, pray, read, have sex, or prep up for the day ahead. I’ve noticed that this is also when I am most clear minded and at peace in my thoughts, where I get inspiration and mental clarity, so this makes good sense.

Probably the two phases although my wakefulness period in between is probably only like 15 min

3 a.m., almost like clockwork, every night, I wake up to use the bathroom. Doesn't matter if I used the bathroom at 10 p.m. at night or not.
I go right back to sleep as I make it a point not to check my phone. I also leave the lights off on my way to bathroom (I have a nightlight in my bathroom).
I use a ring track sleeper and I'm told that my sleep is rated as excellent.
Edited.
Last night's report:
7 hours and 22 minutes of sleep
Awake: 4 % or 18 minutes
REM: 20 % or 1 hour and 32 minutes
Light Sleep: 50 % or 3 hours and 50 minutes
Deep Sleep: 20 % or 2 hours
Heart Rate: 58 bpm

We couldn't be more opposites. I've never once woken up feeling rested and ready to take on the day, no matter how much sleep I get. I'm usually trying not to walk into walls if I get up at 2 am to pee.

I think the science and historical research on this is still pretty inconclusive. It got popularized a few years back, but it's never been proven or disproven. Last I saw, it was closes to being disproven, but I haven't looked.
I used to wake up a lot in the night, usually between 1-2, but once I got my apnea under control, I rarely wake up. Now my problem is I wake up at 4:30 and have to piss, and by then I'm awake for the day.

Pretty much the same as you. I could sleep uninterrupted for 10-12 hours every night well into my 20s and had endless energy.
Job changes (moving into shift work) and increased alcohol consumption screwed up my sleeping patterns in my 30s and 40s.
I’m in my 50s now and I usually sleep well until around 2:30 when I get up to pee, but can’t fall back asleep ‘til around 4:00…then my alarm goes off at 5:30 and I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck.

Yep. All depends on when I have to wee wee.

I've had long periods of both types you describe at various points in my life. I find that it mostly coincides with my level of stress at that point in my life. Long un-interrupted sleep is hard to achieve when you're dealing with high levels of stress.

This pattern matches me.
I sleep like a stone from 10 to about 3. I’ve never gotten up to pee in spite of being 55, I’ll toss around for a couple hours. Then back to a restful comfortable sleep till 6:15 or so. Probably get about 7 hours a night of good sleep

I carry an unhealthy amount of stress. I know this. My job sucks. I’m up at 330 every day and with my daughters dance schedule most days I’m not home until 730-800PM.
I get one good nights sleep a week on average. Most days during the weekend I can’t sleep past 530-600, and if I do I’m probably going to wake up with a headache. On a good week I’ll sleep through the whole night, but I’m usually up 2 or 3 times.
Wife and I went to an Excellence resort a few years ago, and it was an amazing trip. Everything about it was perfect. What always sticks out to me is that I slept good the entire time I was there. Like every morning I woke up refreshed. So, like I said, I’m sure stress has a lot to do with my condition right now.

Definitely phases...I get up..pee...drink some water and decaf around 3 or 4 ..read my prayers..then get some really great sleep until about 7am..

Phases, I slept from 10-1:30 last night and then again from 3-5:45. I do that often.

I go to bed between 7-8pm
Sleep like a rock until waking up around 11ish to pee
Go right back to sleep like a rock until around 2am.
Toss and turn a time or two then more in a dream state until my alarm goes off at 4:00am.
I’m in the gym or pounding the pavement by 5:00am.

Don Quixote fulfilled his obligations to nature by sleeping his first sleep, but not giving way to his second, unlike Sancho, who never had a second sleep because his sleep lasted from nightfall until morning, proving he had a strong constitution and few cares.
Where did Cervantes get this idea of "two slumbers" then if the settled science has debooked it? This book was written in 1615 when most people went to bed at nightfall.

My wife goes to sleep and stays knocked out until morning. I wake up like clockwork around 3am and my brain lights up with thoughts of what needs to be done today. I struggle to go back to sleep and then boom alarm goes off at 5:30am.
I miss going to sleep and just waking up once the next morning

Pretty much nailed it. Walberg is not a great actor. Pretty much just chills and plays himself. Has a brother not nearly as successful but has dabbled in the mainstream. This show is a Marky Mark biopic.
ohhh....

That may be starting for me in the last two weeks. Wake up somewhere between 12-1, go back to sleep, and wake up between 3-30. Booze will fix it.
