Tried a few while in the Army. They all had IQs less than 90 and had bought into this whole positive psychology bullshite. Useless as tits on a bore.

Plenty of people have lived through botched suicide attempts and lived to tell the tale of how they instantly regretted the decision to make such an act. Not just cries for help, but legitimate suicide attempts. (Kevin Hines jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge). They also lived to help others. Just because someone is in a Dark place doesn’t mean they are making a decision they want to make or that it should necessarily be respected. I can understand why some feel like death would be a welcomed retreat from their lives, but not all suicides are made with a sound or logical mind making decisions that should simply be “respected.”

It is a fact that mental illness is just like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
Don’t be ashamed to treat it like any other illness.

Are therapists helpful to people without serious problems or not?

My experience is that you want to see one when times are challenging but not bad, and see them on a routine basis. This prevents small problems from developing into big ones over the course of several years, and you can address it when it's manageable.

I enjoyed it. You have to find the right therapist though.

My therapist told me she rarely if ever had seen a man my age take inititiative in getting therapy, and for the ones that do its because the wife dragged them there and they have so much dirty laundry that their attitude and openness is poor.

Every person before and after my session was a lone woman. Not good if you have a non-supportive spouse.

The wife and I are both products of divorced parents, so we want to make sure we don't repeat history. It works.

My wife, (no pics) is a psychotherapist so I basically see one every day… whether I want therapy or not.

Surprisingly a lot of high achiever professional types have severe OCD, ADHD, anxiety etc. She doesn’t cure it, she helps them live productively with it. She also does kids that have experienced severe trauma.

As a matter of fact, I scheduled an appointment with one today to work through some issues I've been struggling with my kids, personal relationship and work.

I went to the same lady through my separation and divorce. It helped then. Hoping it helps with the new issues.

Highly recommended.

really wish we destigmatized men seeking help

I’ve never really thought of men getting in a negative way.

I never understood how it helps anyone.

If it helps you then that’s great.

I have been in therapy three times to help me deal with major life issues. Don’t know if I’d still be here if it wasn’t for therapy.

I’m administrative but now work in BH.

I went to a therapist for several months. Mainly talked about my mom being diagnosed with an incurable disease. Didn’t realize that I was struggling to process a lot of stuff to do with that.

Probably need to go back at some point. It’s been a few months.

I’d recommend it giving it a try to anyone who thinks they might need someone to talk to.

My motto is “ frick it , don’t mean nothing , drive on “.

I had a friend who was a therapist. One of the most intelligent human I have ever known. Think I helped him out a lot.

I’m bitter and have just had enough of the El Torro Poo Poo.

Gonna have a ten foot fence around my property soon. With a battery operated gate.

Going to stock up with everything I need and try to get away from the world.

I want to get to the point where I can minimize human contact. Don’t have much anyway.

Frick therapist.

I go about every 2 weeks. Do it via video now until I can drive again (rotator cuff surgery). Mostly talk about my kids and sports. His oldest is the same age as my youngest so the exchanges go both ways. I've been disabled for over 17 years so I don't have a ton of external things to bitch about.
