Picked up a nickel in a parking lot just this morning.

Always, and think about my grandfather who loved finding coins. Especially dimes, still hope to find old silver ones like back in the day.

Yep, everyone. Last year I decided to keep up with how much I picked up. $38 in twelve months.
Now that I know I'm not gonna get richer picking up coins....................I still pick them up.

I remember my junior high history teacher (around 2000), lambasting us for being a generation that probably wouldn't even pick up a spare ground quarter.
I pick up anything more than a penny as long as I'm not busy.

I remember my algebra teacher* telling the class, in the late 90s, Bill Gates would lose money if he took the time out of his day to stop and pick up a $100 bill off the ground.
Assuming it takes 5 seconds to pick up one coin and put it in your pocket or coin purse, continuously picking up nickels would work out to $36/hr, dimes $72/hr, and quarters $180/hr. The humble penny would give you $7.20/hr, just below the federal minimum wage.
I still pick up any coins I see on the ground or floor in a public place, so long as they aren't visibly touching something vile.
*Edited for grammar.

All the time. Something I learned to do growing up from family. I've found a new level of appreciation for finding change on the ground as a dad now.
My 4 year old loves any chance he gets to put change into his piggy bank. If we find something as simple as a penny in a parking lot, he'll keep it clutched tight in his hand until we are home and then run inside and dump it into his piggy bank. Pure joy.
Everything is still a treasure to him. He brings home pockets full of rocks and pea gravel any chance he gets and has a pile he's making in the garden. Brings me back to my childhood when I would spend hours looking for fossils in the rocks used for gravel roads and parking lots.

Great post man. If only we could keep this mindset into adulthood more.

Not at truck stops because that's usually been coated in piss.

My ex used to always say if you saw a coin on the ground and didn’t pick it up you were effectively telling God you didn’t want more money in your life. She is bat shite crazy, but that kind of stuck.

How many coins you figure she picked up before she took you to the cleaners?

Yes, now.
She sends me dimes, b/c she thought it was cute that I called her a "dime" . I had to explain it to her...
She loved my southern sayings, and my tan. She refilled my heart and healed my soul. I'll always love her, my "10".

Did your ex tell God she didn’t want more men in her life by dumping you?
Posted on 5/20/25 at 6:33 am to SPAGHETTI PLATE
Only when I see them. Though I will let pennies on tails lie where they lay.
Posted on 5/20/25 at 6:46 am to SPAGHETTI PLATE
I used to but now I leave them for other people that might need it.
