Trying to figure out what to do. Seems like the whole "payroll" process is going to be a PITA. Would rather just pay someone straight cash, but I want to be fair to the individual by establishing work history and them (me too) paying into the system.

I really want to and I'm sure they do too, but something is telling me to pay the taxes just to be safe. I'm sure the $25,000 penalty is just a scare tactic and you likely just pay the owed taxes, but it still makes me hesitant.

I originally paid taxes, then realized how big of a headache and waste of time it was. Now it’s straight cash

Yeah, I'll have to do it myself. Some of the services are freaking $200-$250 a quarter.

Well... It's a lot more than $2,100 a year.

I feel like this is a subtle brag thread that you're rich enough to have a full time nanny.

Meh... I live in the New Orleans area, so schooling isn't too far off from the costs.

I'm really just curious as to whether or not people pay the taxes. It's not really the costs of the taxes. It is more so as to how much of a PITA it seems to be.

When government makes laws that are so burdensome for the average citizen to follow, then it is your duty to ignore them.

No one is going to fill out hours of paperwork or hire an accountant simply to get their house cleaned, grass mowed, or pay for a baby sitter a few hours.

It's not a pain if you hire a payroll service.

I did the nanny tax and if you are remotely organized it’s not that big of a deal.

I had a spreadsheet set up that showed rates and taxes withheld that was printed with the check every two weeks.
