Does anyone live with their in laws?

I thought for a brief period of time that my MIL was going to move in with us. I was not looking forward to it, but knew we had little choice. She came and stayed for a weekend and my wife said it would be the death of both of them if she moved in with us.

If I cook something special or a big pot of soup, I’ll bring her leftovers. My parents and I do the same for each other, and when they were off their feet after surgeries, my son and I mowed for them, but they still enjoy yard work so they do that themselves.

Between my parents and my inlaws we all cook and share for and with each other.

I try to keep them happy where they are so I don’t have to live in their house and they don’t have/want to move in with me.

I live 1500 miles away. It's a feature not a bug.

I live very close to my wife's parents and grand parents, as well as my parents. I'm happy to help then anyway I can. Hopefully my kids, grandkids etc. will feel the same way.

In-laws live with us in my in-law house addition which is essentially 2 houses under one roof connected via garage. One big happy family that rotates cooking while I maintain most house/yard duties. With them getting older my crew would be present to help!

Do you own the house or does your in laws own the house?

My parents live 90 minutes away .. I don’t cook/do yard work but I’d do anything that they needed. They are still able to do those things. My parents are 79 and 75.

My jnlaws live 10/15 minutes away. I don’t do much but my husband helps with things that they need — typically tech things or hurricane prep at this point. His parents are 84 and almost 83.

I’m sure the time is coming when I will do more for them all.

What does any of this have to do with your initial rant

My parents are 30 mins away and my in laws are 45-50 mins away. I do random repairs/installs, like their ring doorbell and a new light fixture recently, for my parents. Every 4-6 weeks we host dinner at our house and the four of them plus my brother in law come over for a few hour.

Live very close to in laws. We see them almost daily. They help take care of little ones, the dog, cook, clean, random projects. They are great people. We cook for them and do “Sunday Supper” fairly often. I’m thankful for them.
