Boats n HOAs?
Can't have a boat trailer in your driveway. Stupidest thing I ever heard. I get it that there may be a time when one owner leaves a POS rustbucket in their driveway that might make the neighborhood look trashy. But address that specific situation rather than ban ALL boat trailers.
I'd love to see which homeowners have boats so I can map out who I want to be friends with!

yep
its nice not having to get permission to plant a tree in my front yard
but of course, the drawback is my neighbor having a giant, wood carved eagle in his front yard

No HOA here....I've yet to see pink houses or cars on cinder blocks.
Well if its hasn't happened in your one neighborhood in Scottsdale...

Necessary evil.
That's what the Nazis said too.
But who the hell wants to be told what type of flower bed bricking, type of plants, where they can be, color of bricks, etc.
And have some jackass with a ruler measuring the height of the grass and generally telling you how to take care of your yard and house ext decor is something I never was even willing to consider.
Like somebody said earlier, responsible adults don't need all that bs to have a nice house and yard.

It's alright I guess, they cut the grass by the ponds and common areas once a week and keep most of the people in line. Stuff like ugly paint colors, unkempt yards/flower beds, peoples leaving their campers on the street for a week at a time. Stuff that should be common sense.

I like mine. The fees are reasonable, and they do a good job of keeping the neighborhood looking nice without overzealous enforcement of the rules.
I wish that they would ban fat women from showing off their cottage cheese legs in shorts, though.

Indeed.
I never lived in a HOA growing up, and where I live now is not HOA. Everyone takes care of their yards and home values are high. Every property is unique, and nothing is cookie-cutter. I like it.
I think some people assume that without an HOA, the neighborhood automatically goes to shite.

Nice not having neighbors that can't trash up the neighborhood... I wouldn't live in a HOA because some of that crap they patrol is stupid.

I don't live with a HOA, but the only rule I had to sign for was that I couldn't put a trailer on my property. I was glad to sign that.

Amazing how people act like sheep.

HOA threads are very interesting. I'm guessing you could correctly guess political ideology from the way different people react to HOAs.

I have access to the communal pool and tennis courts and trash/recycling removal.
