last week we had some thugs in our neighborhood who went around checking car doors. they hit the two houses next to ours. neither had lights on, we always have lights on under carport and front porch....

All my landscape lights and front porch lights are on a timer. They come on at 8 and go off at 12 or 1 am.

I live in Uptown NOLA. I leave mine on, but dimmed. I think they are a deterrent to people coming on to the porch, particularly people who are harder to distinguish in the dark. So, I do it as an equality thing. I want to be able to clearly see anyone who comes on to my porch at night.

Front porch lights are off unless I’m expecting somebody - I try to keep the bugs away, particularly the termites in the spring.
But all of my corner flood lights are ring floodlights and always switched on so when they detect motion they light up for 5 minutes.

Porch lights and Christmas lights stay on 24/7/365.

All off at night. All 3 of the neighbors behind me have their back yard flood lights on every night it drives me nuts.

I live too far out in the country for anyone to see porch lights

On. The only reason I would consider turning them off is for migratory birds. Lights on at night are said to disrupt migration, which mainly occurs at night. On a side note, our electricity went out Monday evening till midnight. It wasn't a hot night but comfortable. The quietness was great and I slept solid till the ac, fans, refrigerator etc. came on. Made me aware of how much noise we accept in our lives.
Fallen pecan tree in our pool has been removed and the pool is black from the tannin. I've treated with shock, but I'm pretty certain thats not gonna help. will probably end up draining most of the water and refilling.

He also says leaving the lights on is an undue burden on the grid and ultimately the climate, unnecessarily increasing the electric bill.
I have (2) 7 watt, LED bulbs on my front porch ceiling fans. On 24 - 7 - 365. A total of .12 amps draw at 120 volts. Absolutely negligible difference in my monthly electricity bill. That would be a total of 2.88 watt- hours per day and 86 watt-hours per month. At 7 cents per KILOWATT-hour that would be around an extra .6 cents per YEAR on my electric bill.

I leave my porch lights off but I have a gas light style light in my front yard that I leave on all night. Can't stand having my house completely dark

Homes with the lights off look trashy.
With no lights how do you see the trashiness?

They reduce to 10% but are triggered to full brightness when someone opens the gate to the front yard or motion is detected on the porch between 11pm and sunrise.

I turn ours off. I do have motion lights on the porches of the shop buildings and house. Leaving outside lights on fricks with pretty much everything outside at night.

Off because we have motion lights on the garage and a Ring doorbell. Our address sign on our house is always on though.
That’s my exact set up, too.

We use bulbs with light sensors (dawn to dusk). Come on at night, off in the morning. they're great.

Off. I let my neighbor attract all the termite swarms
