For BR to be between New Orleans and Cajun country, yet have no real cultural identity other than LSU is pretty pathetic.

Without LSU, BR is Jackson Mississippi
Is that attributable to LSU?

I lived in BR for about 10 years. It's no more (or really less) a shithole than your typical Louisiana town/city. There are your horribly impoverished areas and also your decent middle class areas with a couple splotches of wealth. BR is mostly just really bland outside of LSU athletics. I do miss some of the restaurants though. But NOLA does have a far greater variety.

Some areas are rough others areas are fine. Just like any other southern city.

It's a shite hole with a few pearls hidden in the shite.

BR was nothing but the a tiny river town that all the politicians met up in up until about 1950 when people migrated from the delta depressed areas and Texas to work in refineries.

This. I have lived in Clarksville, Nashville, Seattle (Tacoma), Colorado Springs, Dothan, and Baton Rouge. To me, it seems like every other mid to major city in the country. Low income areas are bad but the areas where people meet or exceed the COL standards are nice.
Out of all the places I've lived, Baton Rouge has the best food by far.

Most people saying it isn't haven't travelled much

If we're being objective, the entire state of Louisiana is a shithole.
There are nice parts of some cities, but even then it's just a nice part of a shitty place.

I liked it when I lived there and I still like to visit for games and such...I think shithole when I think of the leadership there, but not the city itself.

It has nice spots but as a city in general, it's a shithole. You can't get to any of the decent retail without assuming an hour or more of driving from any appreciable distance in the city. BR is propped up by LSU and the capital complex and even that can't last forever. You'll see another "flight" out once St. George gets approved.

I see that, which is kind of sad. I get the frustrations with the politics, but I have had a pleasant experience so far.

Louisiana residents in general have a very apathetic attitude towards their state. It's well earned from years of political corruption and ineptitude but it certainly doesn't help.
