Nope. Not a one.
And you don't realize how boring other places are until you've lived somewhere else.

where are they moving? Are they selling the house in the Quarter?

I have a SIL that is wanting to move TO nola after grad school, despite my best attempts to shed some light on massive mistake she's making. In fairness, she's 23 and from an upper middle class family in BR=naive.

Likely doing a 6 and 6 between Austin and New England.

I picked up close to 20 families in my practice after Katrina.
None of them went back and I don't hear any regrets.
After living there 4 years, it was fun but can't imagine raising a family there.

Why would you discourage her from moving to New Orleans? She could live very comfortably and is still too young to give a shite about the corruption and politics.
If she could land a good job and live uptown or warehouse dist she would have a blast.

It shouldn't take "guts" to live somewhere.
Climbing Everest takes guts, living and raising a family shouldn't.

I know a couple who have packed it up and left. My wife is one who still wants to move there instead of commuting from Mandeville. Wish she'd see how bad things are, sadly I don't think she will.

As bad as things are, the city is still better off than it was before Katrina.

I know three people who are looking to buy in Old Metry now. Just got fed up with all of the corruption, incompetence, and Mitch BS. A few girls I know have already moved to Jefferson to get out of NO and closer to their places of business. My married friends always move away within a year of getting married.
Everyone that moves away is much happier. I've never known anyone that wanted to move back after leaving.

I've always wanted to move back since graduating PR school 11 years ago. My wife is from sfla and never really loved the city other than to visit. I'm honestly glad I didn't move back at this point. I miss my family and friends but seeing the absolute minimum you get for the high taxes in Orleans Parish and crazy high real estate prices just isn't worth it.

Warming my wife up to the idea of leaving the area. Just seems to be getting worse not better.

My mom called JP last Tuesday about water leaking up in between concrete sections of her street. When I went there last night, parish trucks were there, and the concrete portion was already torn up. Don't even bother calling in New Orleans.
I can call the cops any time of day and have them at my house usually within 3-5 minutes. Don't even bother calling in New Orleans.
If I forget to lock my truck one night, no biggie. Forget to lock your car in New Orleans one night, it's gone.
I can literally see the improvements my tax money gets used for.
We still have all of our statues up. New Orleans has all of their destroyed statue based up.
