I saw Johnese Smith on the news the other day talking about her platforms. Her solution for curbing gun violence in the city is to get rid of video games (no lie).
Her solution to fix the pumps is to take $60MM away from OPP, and give it to the S&WB.

After seeing the early mayoral race poles, it's not really any question as to why they're headed out. Things are about to go from bad to worse.

I threw in the towel about 6-7 years ago. Im picking it back up. Wife needs to be closer to work.
Plus, how can one sit in their ivory tower and complain about NOLA and not do their part to change it? Im holding out hope that the carpetbaggers and millennials have been here long enough by now and are sick of the bullshite and are going to start the change. Id like to see them start running for all the elected positions and change the political culture.

This is the real trade-off. I lived in Austin and St. Louis. Austin was pretty cool but it still rings hollow compared to NOLA. St. Louis was the most boring place Ive ever lived and the people there had the personality of a pet rock. That was one miserable, depressing place.

Left in July. It's my favorite city in the world and I miss it, but it's cool to be able to leave my vehicle unlocked and not have to worry about it being picked through by wild animals.

I know everyone on the OT loves to bash Southern California along with NOLA, but when my job temporarily relocated to San Diego after Katrina I had the opportunity to stay out in Cali. I chose at the time to return to NOLA. Looking back, I kick myself in the arse for not staying out in San Diego.

I leave my top off of my Jeep, and that's something that I would never feel comfortable doing in New Orleans. It's also behind a fence, and I don't think anyone is jumping that fence here to get into my backyard.

In the first ten years after Katrina there was a lot of energy and push for change, and new faces in politics. In the last few years, that has slowed. I certainly would like to see it pick back up again, and I do think the local outrage over the pumps and other issues is indicative that a large part of the population will not put up for a return to pre-Katrina crime and politics. Sadly, there is also a large part of the population with pre-Katrina nostalgia in terms of regaining their perceived political clout, control over schools, etc...Right now I am trying to figure out which of the mayoral candidates is most likely to return us to the past, and which one at least will try to effect change.

It is easy picking, and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it in New Orleans even though I lock both my glove box and console, but I don't have hoodrats walking down my street checking doors and looking to get into people's backyards here.
It's not visible from the street and is behind a 6ft gate/fence.
