My supervisor does this. I find it bizarre - we have a “sent” folder so there is always a record that an email was sent. Wtf is the point of Cc yourself for everything?
What other weird email habits do people have?
Do you have an inspirational quote in your signature?
How about the douches that always reply to all when it’s not warranted?
I want to do a PI project in how to decrease useless email traffic that is time consuming with no added value.

I know people that do that. I don't know if they understand what the "sent" folder is for
Got one the other day from a vendor that had
"Favorite Candy: Sour Skittles"
in the signature. So weird

It's so they have a copy of the transmission. Most POP/IMAP email doesn't follow you in your outbox/sent items on your devices, if you cc yourself, you can have a copy of it in your inbox. I sometimes BCC myself.

I love the idiots with a masters degree who put MBA etc. after their name in the signature line.

Using “reply to all” gets you a warning where I work.

I've always seen that as an option. I have no clue why it's a thing.

I got one the other day that had “Preferred pronouns: She/her” in the signature. I got triggered

I rarely see this but it's horrible when I do. You're an adult, we don't need you to fire off inspiration from your email signature

Sounds like he's a Luddite/Boomer?
If you felt like you need to keep another separate copy copy, you could BCC yourself.
My pet peeve is folks who format their outgoing mail with a background and colored specialized font.
I purposefully omit all of that when responding.

Every email is too much, but on emails that could end up in a court case or a he said / she said... you're damn right I'll CC myself. I'll throw read receipts and delivery receipts on there too. Nothing is better than digging up a two year old email once crap starts going down and being able to prove it was sent, received, and read.

People that request read receipts on every email trigger me. I'll intentionally select "no" every time.

Read receipt for every email is annoying as well

All the colleges are doing this now. When I first saw it, I thought it was a joke.

I've done it before to ensure that the email actually sent out. Typically do it on days where the network is glitchy. I've had emails go to sent folder that actually never went out.

Used to work with a guy that had read receipt on every email, while also marking every email with high importance. No surprise he was the type that looked at himself as the smartest person in any room he was in. Seeing him get fired was great.

Yeah, neckbeardy IT dude I worked with. He explained his reasoning but I didn't find it compelling.
Pretty cool dude, but, again... kinda neckbeardy.

Our hospital recently got rid of this even being an option thankfully. Just looks tacky.
Now everyone has a standardized signature with hospital logo, your name, title and extension
