Crawfish boils have got to be the least kosher meals on the planet.
About 10 years ago, a customer in southern Illinois invited us to his house for a summer dinner he hosts every year. Some baws from Shreveport brought up a trailer full of shrimp, crawfish and all the trimmings for the boil. Only one I have ever been to and it still ranks in my top 5 meals I have ever had. Damn fine food and the seasoning they had was amazing.

Oddly, no I don't. I used to go to school with a Jewish girl growing up, actually went to her Bat Mitzvah. It was at Beagle Bagel Cafe, no shite

Went to school in New England (or Tulane) where there was a kosher cafeteria?
Upstate New York. The school had a large contingent of Jewish students, primarily from NYC. Kosher cafeteria was in the Student Union.

Do you know any Jewish people?

I only kinda got to know one. He was super cool. However, he was a judge and very corrupt, LOL. I didn't know he was Jewish at first. When I found out I remember thinking, "What is with all the Jew hate? This guy is very generous and friendly". A few years later I discovered the corruption. I think that is more of the politician in him than the Jew. He was good friends with Edwin Edwards after all.

Worked with one Jewish guy a few years ago. He had no problem telling the gay guy in the office where he was going when he died.

There are only about 11 million Jews in the world.

FYI, there are only 8M Jews in the US. They basically all reside in California and the Northeast.

The Jewish family I know in Krotz Springs would be interested to hear that.

Not just Lafayette, but there once was a significant Jewish population in Opelousas.
My major professor in grad school at LSU many moons ago was a Jewish woman from NYC. She was the first Jewish person that I can say that I knew. She had only been down here in LA for less than a year. One day in the lab, she asked me to tell her all about the Cajun people, so I did. I followed up with "what's up with the Jews? Yom Kipper and all of that?" She had a good sense of humor and we had a pleasant cultural exchange that day, which actually extended throughout the rest of my time there until graduation.

Southern Jews learned how to assimilate into society and for the most part help the local community by giving back.
Right? All of the Jews that we grew up around in South Carolina were great and worked hard like we all did to fit in. My first cousin married a Jew from Delaware. Get two drinks in him and he would start telling us all how much we hated him. It was so bizarre. After a couple years, it was a self fulfilling prophesy. We did hate him. So glad that she kicked his tail to the curb.

Yes, the synagogue is still there on South Union Street, but is no longer active. Someone is taking care of it, though.
